Disney Visa card?

First, let me apologize for kind of highjacking this thread, but I didn't want to start another similar one.

Silly me, I signed up for the Disney Visa because I wanted the 6 months no interest to pay for our Disney Cruise as well as get the shipboard credit. I know that the interest rate is high, so after we pay off the cruise we will not charge very much on it.

So, my question is.....what's the deal with the rewards? How does it work is it 1:1? What other features do I get by having the card?

:confused3 I didn't look before I lept this time and now I am totally clueless.

I will slink away now ......

As far as rewards cards go, it's not bad. No annual fee, 1% back. Believe me, if I didn't have a balance on it already, I would be using it. ;) You'll occasionally get offers to buy a Disney trinket and get like 3% back. There's better rewards cards out there, but this one isn't bad. Especially the 0% interest on vacations. Just wish they had more triple offers and such.

We pay our bill every month in full. We have used it twice - once $650 for our onboard bill on the Magic and I just applied $450 towards my annual/maintenance fees.

(My two items that make the bill add up quickly is college tuition - next year I will have two), homeowners insurance policy and car insurance policy (4 cars). I recently charged for the first time my heating (oil) bill since it went up so much. Unless you have major renovations, buying furniture, etc., it can take a while to add up a few reward dollars.

Disney Visa is the ONLY credit card I carry on a regular basis...I have others, but only use them for ER. As long as you pay the balance each month, there are no worries with using this card....only positive results.

I have many friends that use the card for ALL expenses to add up the Disney Rewards faster for their family trips. For Disney Nuts, it's a fantastic program!

Check into it, there are special incentives to get the application started.

How high are the % rates? I've never even looked into getting a Disney Visa

If you're not going to pay it in full every month, then I can't see the math working out. Whatever you earn in reward points will be offset by the finance charges. The only way it's "free money" is if you never pay them a dime in finance charges.

We also use our reward dollars to pay our annual maintenance fees and for this year it covered 75% of our fees.

Just to be on the record I have NEVER made payments on a card. I ALWAYS pay my bill in full. I was just asking what the rate was since someone said that it was insanely high (just curious :confused3 ). Also I never said that it was "free money" that had to have been someone else b/c in my book NO money if free money.

Sorry, I didn't realize that you were just curious about the interest rate. I did not relate your post back to the earlier one about the interest rate being high.

I made an assumption (wrongly) that the interest rate mattered to you. And I further assumed (again, wrongly) that the reason it mattered is that you wouldn't be paying in full each month. So again, I apologize.

Also, the term "free money" was my term. I put it in quotes not because I was saying that you (or anyone else) had said it, but because I wanted to qualify the term. If I had been talking with you in person I would have done the air quote thing with my fingers to convey that touch of sarcasm because I was also trying to get across the idea (the same one as yours) that NO money is free money.

Sorry for the misunderstandings.

Maybe the caps was a little over the top. Sorry, I'm really not offended just setting the record straight.

...By the way, I need to give major kudos to the private meet and greet at Epcot benefit that the card offers. We had never done it before and just went last month. I thought it would be private as in only Disney card members would be allowed in. Instead, the Disney card members are lined up, but then you actually go in by yourselves (with your family) and get to spend a few minutes by yourself with the charachters. My kids absolutely loved having truly private time with Mickey and Goofy. And they throw in a free picture.

Finally, I just got my new one with the picture of Mickey, Goofy and Donald on it, and its nice that they can at least bring a little bit of a smile to my face every time I use the card.

How do you find out about the benefits? I am a day 1 card holder but have never gotten anything but the rewards. Those are great, but the only other offers I ever get are $50 in room credit on DCL. Better then a stick in the eye, but definitely not WooHOO!

If you go online with your cc there is a section letting you know about current promotions. They do let you know about triple rewards or special discounts, for example there is alot of deals for DL like free strollers and 10% off on some dining.

Back to the % question, mine rate was 14.9% and did lower it this morning to 11.9% (still not a deal), has anyone lowered it to a decent% like 2 or 3% ? I do sometimes carry a balance which leaves no deal but maint.fees are $5500.(but that was paid off) so when I asked the Chase rep if that was the best he could do he said yes and I said I have a discover card that has 0% and I would transfer it and he said go ahead!!! I thought it was ride, I will try again later ! Any thoughts!!

I was just wondering if anyone uses the Disney Visa card to earn points toward park tickets....
We used our Disney Visa rewards dollars in Nov 2005 to pay for our MYW park tickets and it worked out fine. We were staying at the BCV and had the BCV concierge desk handle the transaction and make the tickets part of our room key at the same time. Very smooth and easy. Evidently they do it quite often.

My Disney Chase Visa APR is 8.49% on purchases (lower than my MBNA card). And I have 0% interest on the entire balance until February 2007.

It works for me.

I received many different offers from Chase for this card before the one that finally got me to apply.

<<Last year I saved about 3/4 of my reward dollars and used them towards our ap's for a family of 5. Right now I have 400 dollars and have to renew by August so hopefully I will have about $1000 dollars to put towrd the $1500 in ap's>>

Keep in mind that you cannot earn more than $700.00 a year in Dsiney Rewards.
I had to open a second Disney Visa card after I hit the $700.00 in reward earnings.

Is that a new rule somewhere? I just went to check my card history- I earned over 800 reward dollars in 2004 (lots of wedding expenses on the card that year.)

<<Rewards Program Information

Subject to credit approval. You will earn one (1) Disney Dream Reward DollarSM for every one hundred (100) dollars in net purchases, up to a maximum of 750 Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM on $75,000 in net purchases in a calendar year.>>

Looks like they raised it this year to 750.
It was 700 on the original card.

I just signed up for one when I was at the Disney Store on Sat. and I got a $10.00 gift card just for filling out the application! Dumb me I should've had dh fill one out too! :scratchin

Just wondering if I have the same Disney card everyone is talking about. We have a Disney card from Chase. Is that the one others have?
So far we have put close to two grand on it (and have paid it off each month in full) but still have only earned $19.00 in reward cash - I guess its called we haven't redeemed it yet. But doesn't it seem like I should have more then that on $2000.00 worth of purchases. Or is the dollar amount different then the points earned. I wish I could find my last statement so I can ask more specific questions. I will have to see where it is when DH comes home from work.
At any rate it seems like a lot of people love having it.

Chase is the only one that has the Disney Visa.

I have one and my interest rate is 14 something %. I don't care because I don't carry a balance on it. Currently I have 221 reward $$, took advantage of that double points during Oct - Dec last year (which was great because we were at Disney 2x during that year)

Sherri - If you had 2000 in charges you should only have 19-20 reward dollars on your card. Its 1% back, meaning $1 for every $100 you spend.

Just got my card last week, slightly confused as to terms of the 6 month free financing on travel thru WDT Co. & DCL.

Anyone know if the financing period starts from the date of down payment or the final payment date? Asked WDT, DCL & Chase - can't get a consistent answer????

Benefit really isn't that great if it's from day of booking, especially for a cruise.

Thanks for expaining Cobbler.
Now I see. I will use it for everything now so I can rack up the Disney Dollars.

Look in the back of Birnbaums' guide for a $50 WDW gift card after your first use of a new Chase Disney Visa. I applied for one for me and one for my husband-hopefully they'll let us each have one. Every little bit helps....
