Disney Visa Bonus Rewards confusion

Mickyluv,

That's the one (citi) that always gets mentioned on these boards as on of the best reward cards out there. I've always put off getting it... just because we're suckers for disney... but I got that same offer yesterday EXCEPT it said with my fisrt purchase they will credit me 10,000 points to use for a gift card!!! That's $100! So not only am I going to send it in for the card, but their marketing has done thier job because since I already know it's a better deal, and now I will have the card I will be switching to it for everything.

ALSO, I got the offer for double points over $1000 (july '04 to june '05) and have spent an average of $2000 per month on my visa (not sure about the categories though) but I have not received 1 bonus point. NOW they sent me a reminder postcard with the details of the offer again (it has the same dates and same spending requirements) I think it's just to remind me that they're screwing up.

You can go to their website (bankone or first usa?) but anyway, go to your account then go to statements and there is a year in review .pdf file that you can look at to see how much you spent in each month in each category. It may help in determining if you think you should have received bonus points.... I'm off to look at it now.

Oh sorry, a couple of more things...

The regular points should be real simple what ever you spend in 100's you get the many points... If you spend 1,300 that same statment should credit you with 13 points or 13 dollars. That has never been off for us.

and Mickyluv- do the math before you transfer the balance, see how much interest you are going to pay to have it paid off vs. transfering it and paying it off. They will charge you 3% up to $75 to transfer the money. Plus it may be smarter to keep the dis account and pay it down whlie trying to use your other card for daily purchases while paying it off every month.

Also (more math) Discover never charges to transfer a balance (and usually offers low interest rates on transfers) So if you can get a deal like 1.9% with no transfer fees it may be a better deal. It all depends on how much you owe and how soon you will be able to pay it off. We used every tool we had to pay our debt down. At my peak I owed 17,000 in credit card debt on 6 or 7 cards. It took a lot of shuffeling, transfers and low interest rates, but now I'm lucky enough to have it all paid off.

All you Citi users have convinced me, I think I'll look into this card. I use my Disney Visa for all my monthly bills. It sure is slow going accumulating those points. I haven't gotten an offer for bonus points. I have a feeling if I stopped using it now I would be getting all kinds of offers. My monthly bills are rarely over $500.00. With the Citi 5% rewards I could always use the $ to buy Disney Dollars! Can someone post a web site for citi. Thanks a lot!!

One question for Citi users - do the rewards come to you as a check or do they get applied to your credit card balance?

classifying gas purchases? When I get gas for my vehicle, I actually use the "pay at the pump" option, where I don't have to go inside and swipe my card, I just do it right there at the gas pump. Well Disney visa has all of my gas purchases as Vehicle expenses, not gas purchases. How would this work with the Citi card being that they have the 5% back for gas purchases??

You request a check once the balance gets to be over $50. The checks come very fast - like within a week of requesting.

I just called Disney Visa and was told that I do not even have the option of Double Reward Dollars!!!! She said that some people are offered them and some people are not!!! I think I'm going to use my rewards that I've accumulated so far and then cancel my card!!!! Are there any other cards out there that offer good rewards? What would you do???? :confused3
Yes...American Express. Check out all the different types of cards and bonus offers available. I also enjoy CITI rewards, and recently received my 50$ Olive Garden gift card! I've never been over here on this board. There is SO much information, how do you all decipher it? :goodvibes I've learned a lot just lurking and reading...very interesting information. Thanks!

I'm so glad to see someone else brought up the Citi Card this time, I started a thread on it awhile back, but I was afraid to bring it up again, thought I might sound like a Citi Card commercial. We are charter members of the Disney Card, and after spending our accumulated rewards on our trip last month, we're done using it. It made me angry that they were picking and choosing who got double rewards, and that the amount you had to spend each month before you got your rewards, varied depending on who you were (or how much you used your card). We have to spend $1,000 in any calendar month before our double rewards kicked in!

We now have the Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card, started using it the end of January and already have accumulated $25 reward dollars (on my card alone) for just our normal every day purchases (nothing major). My DH and I both have our own accounts so we can earn a total of $300 each. I'm going to start my own "Disney Account" (which is what I had the Disney Card for) and deposit all my Citi Card rewards (gonna look into that ING thing).

Right now the Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card is offering 7% (instead of 5%) on your supermarket purchases for your first 3 months (5% on gas & drugstore, 1% on everything else). PM or e-mail me, I'll be glad to give you the phone number. ~:)~

I am one of those who has converted from the Disney Visa to the Citi Card. I have to say the points have added up a LOT quicker. Like someone else said put the "pretty card away"
Last year I had major purchases and was able to get up to 750 points on Disney visa. While that was great for our trip in November since then it has been hard to make those points rise. With the 5% being offered on various items with the Citi card I am just watching it grow. Much better option in my opinion.
And then I deposit the checks in my ING account and watch the money grow even faster. This is all disney money so it is very easy to save with that goal in mind. It's so funny how disciplined I am when it comes to saving for a Disney "fix" :earboy2:

The offer I have from Citi Dividend is 0% APR up to 06/01/06 on balance transfers with NO BALANCE TRANSFER FEE! Does this seem like a good deal?? :confused3 It does to me, but what do you think?

It's a great deal, just make sure that any balance you transfer is paid off by the due date or interest will be cumulative (most likely).

Thanks alot!! I'm going to wait until after my statement closing date with Disney to transfer so that I can get my rewards dollars. I would hate to transfer to another card and they not let me get my reward dollars!!! I would be very mad!!!

Yep. That's a great deal. Mine included the free $100 gift card, but no free balance transfers.

I (currently) do not have a balance to transfer, but I've always wondered. how do they split the balance transfer (0%) from you everyday purchases. It sounds like a good card for balance transfers and for everyday spending. So if you transfer $5000 (to pay off at 0%) and use it to spend (and pay off) $500 per month, how do they work that out?

Month 1- Balance $5000 (0% int.) spend $500 pay $500. Now are you left with?
$5000 at 0%
or $4500 at 0% and $500 at the current int rate.
or a percentage of both.

I always kept my balance seperate from my spending card and paid them down like loans, and I don't know how they work that?

I just used my points towards my vacation (300 over two years!) now I will look closely to see if we should of been getting more!

If it's like other cards, you will be paying the lowest interest rate off first (0%) so that all new purchases will continue to accumulate interest. This is why when I transfer a big balance to a card with a good offer, I quit using that card for everyday purchases until it's paid off.

Hello , We threw away the movie preview offer because here in Ma. there NEVER seemed to be any? Did anyone ever see any previews near them? Thank You , Butch

I never got a movie screening offer either...and we put (and pay off) about 1,500.00 a month (give or take on our disney visa's). Who knows what you've gotta do to get an invite???? :confused3

I have been a member since day 1 and have never been offered bonus points! I did accumulate over 300 reward dollars though, which we spent in WDW in November. (I wonder if I spend TOO much for them to WANT to offer me rewards?) Since then, I have been using the Citi card with the 5% back on groceries, gas, drug stores. Requested a check from them on 2/28 and am waiting for it to arrive ($110 already). The only thing I don't like is the $300 limit because I will have to start searching for another card! I still do use the Disney Visa on other purchases so I can get the most for my grocery money with the 5% from Citi card.

Lorie

I think I'm going to transfer my balance to Citibank Dividend since there's no transfer fee. We are going to WDW in 10 days (!!) and I have a Disney Visa rewards card with $200. Will they take the rewards off my card if I transfer my balance?
