Disney Visa and 0% FINANCING for 6 months!?

Hi All!

Quick question. We stayed at the Yacht Club August 2010 for 7 nights using the Disney VISA. This is room only, that we booked on the card because we have annual passes. Shouldn't this be 0 percent interest? They are charging us 13.50 percent interest on this. The only reason we use the card is because they keep advertising 0 percent interest on all Disney vacation packages when you use your Disney VISA?

I'm really frustrated with this. Has anyone here had any problems with this before?

Thanks so much!

From the site you linked:

As an ongoing card perk, pay zero interest for 6 months anytime you use your card to book select Disney vacation packages, Disney cruises, and Adventures By Disney vacations through the Walt Disney Travel Company, your travel agent, or online at Disney sites.

Presumably, booking only a room is not considered a package. I believe a package includes tickets and/or airfare. Also note that they say "select" packages, not "all" packages.

Hi!

Thanks for the quick reply! But how exactly do you know what a Disney vacation package is? We have used the card before for room only at the Contemporary Jan 09 and Poly Sept 08 with room only and it wasn't an issue. We indeed got the 0 percent interest.

That 0% for 6 months is only for package vacations. Room only reservations are not eligible for the 0% for 6 month financing perk.

A package is generally a reservation that includes tickets according to Disney. The exception is an AP reservation that includes a dining plan.

I'm surprised to hear that you got the 0% for room only reservations in the past. You were lucky as you weren't supposed to get it.

Wow, okay. It just seems like we spend thousands at Disney every year, along with our Annual passes (approximately $800) and they can't budge on the 0 percent financing! I guess I'm frustrated because we bought our annual passes separately. But this is forcing us to buy a vacation package, when we don't need the package since we already have the tickets, lol!

Anyway, thanks for your reply.

How to do this if you are not getting the dining plan with your reservation is to purchase a 1 day base ticket, $82. The 1 day ticket and the room qualifies as a package. I believe if don't use it, it will not expire. Keep it until you are ready to renew your annual passes and apply the 1 day ticket towards the cost. The $82 + tax per ticket you spend would probably be cheaper than the interest charges, plus your not really losing the money.
I don't have a annual pass but plan on getting one on our next trip in Oct. so I purchased a package with a 5 day hopper pass. We can apply all the $$ we spent on the hoppers including the tax towards the AP. By doing this we will be able to pay for the majority of the cost of the AP over 6 months.

I know you can add on the dining plan with an annual pass. If you purchase the dining plan, does that turn it into a package? I know I did that several years ago, and then I think I had to pay in full 45 days ahead, which would constitute a package. Not sure though...it might be worth checking out as a way to get the 0% financing.

I'm not sure if this applies to you or not, but remember that the 6 months at 0% is from the time of booking, not from the time of your stay. If you book a trip early, than the 0% window could already be up? Just a thought.

Not exactly, say you book Oct 1 for an April vacation package. You have 6 mo to pay the $200 deposit. When you pay the balance 45 days out, you have 6 mo from that point to pay whatever your balance is.

As the PPs stated, the room only reservation does not qualify got the 0% unfortunately. If its room + tickets, it's considered a package and automatically qualifies for no interest for 6 months. An easy way to tell the difference is the deposit you pay - room only is 1 night deposit and a package is $200 down and balance due 45 days before check in.

The only "exception" to this is if you book an AP rate and add dining, you do not have to purchase tickets to make it a package. So your room plus dining will qualify for the 0%. Might be worth looking into since you have APs.

I was booked as a basic myw package. They were doing this before the 2011 rates became available online. So it was just a room but it was booked as a package, I paid the 200 deposit and it was interest free. You might try I'm not sure if they are still doing this.

I'm not positive, but I think it ultimately depends on "who" you pay your vacation for. Even with room only if your card is charged through "Disney Travel Company" then you will get the interest free for 6 months.
