Disney Visa accepting applications on-line!

That raises the discount from 1% to 3%, DC gave us 10.
In fairness, its 1-3% of EVERYTHING you purchase on the Visa, not just what you buy at locations that offered the DC discount.

How it compares to the other cards all depends on those "bonus" opportunities. The $50 ship credit is of limited appeal. What most will really be interested in is earning 2x or 3x the points at certain locations or at certain times. That allows for a 'bonus' with maximum flexibility, which is very important to rewards cards holders.

Exactly Matt, but 1-3% is less than 10% discount on select items..... As far as other cards go, Discover doesn't have the D$750 limit. I guess it is an OK card, but the cap on purchase rewards without Special Disney Discounts is what I was trying to talk about. The Pin should be nice, but I would like more Special Just For DisneyCardHolders discounts.

IMHO

Bear with my "dumb" question, but I'm not a credit-card expert....What is the down side to my getting this card and then not using it much this year (2004 is our WDW trip year)??
We have a card and use it in emergencies only. Any privacy issues or fee issues? (I believe I read that there is no annual fee).
Your advice is welcome !! thanks.

The only potential downside of getting the card is that is has an impact on your credit report. Whether it is a negative or positive impact depends. If you already have several credit cards then it would have a slightly negative impact. If you don't have many credit cards and use the card wisely, then it could actually improve your credit rating. Part of what determines your credit rating is how wisely you use the credit that is given to you.

Well Spoken Brian, I just have to add that as far as credit cards go it is not that bad of one, I have some better ones, but there are some that are worse by far. I was just disappointed in the fact that I felt that they were promissing more. It will probably evolve a little, and I would definately recommend getting one if for no other reason than to have the card imprinted that you were a member from day 1. There is also a pin you get with your first charge.

If you are responsible with credit cards, there is no big downside.

If you don't like the benefits, you can always make it more expensive for them than the profits that they make off of you; I.E. the only charge you make is a $5.00 tank of gas each month so that they have to send you a statement. The statement and postage cost more than what they make off of the charge.

Or Better yet, you can complain.

Forbes is quoting Eisner today as saying that the number of new Disney Visa card members was very close to the 100,000 mark just days prior to this declaration.

dzneelvr, just one other point on privacy. BankOne WILL share your info with other companies, just like every other credit card issuer....Unless you tell them not to. When you apply (if over the phone), and also in your account agreement, you should get info on how to ask them not to share your info. Follow those instructions and they are then required to comply with your wishes, except for credit reporting purposes, or for other credit/marketing uses within BankOne.

Here is the Phone #

Also, they have a number that you have to call to tell them not to give out your information. (the number is (800) 869-9638) Unfortunately, there is no place to list it on the form so they can give out your information before you are even approved!

Thanks ohana, raidermatt, and brian.
I submitted my application yesterday after reading your post replies. I went into the privacy link but it was down at the time. I'll call the 800 number monday.
My DH isn't as crazy about stuff like this, so I want to make sure I'm not screwing up our credit in any way.
Thanks again.

Really, the only way to mess up your credit by applying for a card is to apply for several where it looks like you are trying to get lots of credit quick.

Even though this card doesn't look all that great, I may just go ahead and apply for it after reading this thread. I need a Visa for vacations and emergencies and the one I have now has suddenly developed a mushrooming APR. I might as well get something useful even if it isn't much.

I may have overlooked this but what about balance transfers? With a trip just around the corner, I have a balance I need to whittle down.

Information and fees on balance transfers are in the reading material upfront when you go into the website and apply.
I didn't have any so didn't pay much attention, but it is all there for you to read first.

Got my card in the mail today, Broke it in at a toy store buying a few Steiff Bears for my collection. (Germany wouldn't Special Order)

Read most of the disclaimer, not much different than I found out. They do say that there will be some special offers. I will finish reading tonight, See if I can do the online thing, and report back what I glean.........

I called them this morning and it was suggested to me that I could tell them I am taking a $10,000 trip to Disney, and they would charge my card (0% interest for 6 months) and deposit the money in my checking account. This would be an interesting perk.

I'm sorry, but I still continue to believe this is really a downgrade from the perks we had with American Express (1 point per dollar that could exchange for tickets, etc; 20% discount at WOD & other discounts). This especially seems a stepback from combining the amex with the disney club; the discounts offered from disney club, were available to anyone (some folks will get out of the credit card) and didn't require you to use a credit card. This wouldn't be so distasteful for me if hadn't been so much talking about improving reward programs for valued guests - instead they are screwing them to make more profit.

Like that movie club thing - I get that offer anyway. ***. That is insulting. The disneyland packages are a tiny percentage discount. What 5%?

But gosh, I can get that rocking cool day one and dvc member on the card, so it must be worth it -
My opinion -
DRh

I just got my credit card and read the fine print. Apparently the limit is $750 per year at the 1% rate based on charging $75,000 to the card. Also, nowhere does it mention an interest rate. It is a variable rate and only a formula for determining the rate is explained.

Certainly not equivalent to the Disney Club card and indicative of the gouging that constitutes dealing with Disney.

No thanks. Hope this idea tanks. Janetd

I can suggest to call/write/let them know.

Call customer service, Call DC Customer Service

Call Customer service and make the suggestions, tell them how much worse the program is than the AMEX

Its a pattern...

It's in there Janet, its required by law. Check the white pamphlet that says "Cardmember Agreement" at the top, and "BANK1ONE" at the bottom. There is a "Table of Interest Charges" somewhere in there, and it explains the variable rate, and also tells you what it was as of January 2, 2003. In mine, its in the "verbage" portion, not quite half way down the page. The sentence begins "On January 2, 2003, teh prime rate..."
