...and a full park day ticket Monday after the marathon...

pretty soon they are going to be paying me to fly down to run it.:thumbsup2

And you are now paying that much more to run the half marathon compared fo the full. I've never seen a situation where it was actually cheaper to run the longer distance event. Anyone out there ever experience this?

Nope, I've never seen that. I think they must be assuming that the half will sell out no matter what, but that it'll take some extra enticements to fill the full. I'm just ticked off I signed up for Goofy so early and missed out on the gift card. I'll definitely wait longer next time.

I knew waiting would pay off  Is there a code that we have to use or do anything special at registration to get the gift card?

Once again, they are just making things worse for themselves next year. No one will book early. You just get penalized. What's wrong with having early registration discounts, like many other marathons do? This year has clearly shown that Disney is no longer "too good" for that. Of course I just registered last week, so I'm not bitter or anything. :)

Brian, you're right! It's bad business. Very few people will sign up early next year unless changes are made. I wonder if Disney will give the gift cards to those who already signed up for the race? They should!!!

DH is thinking about doing this race. Wonder if they'll offer any more incentives after Oct. 15? At the rate they're going, and as Colleen mentioned, Disney will be practically paying his way to run the race.

You know, if I was thinking about doing the half now I wouldn't just out of principle - why pay way more (a lot more) for the half than the full? And I bet next year they are going to have to offer early registration discounts because people will wait hoping for a better deal.

YAnd I bet next year they are going to have to offer early registration discounts

I think this is exactly what they will do.

Kind of like what they did with Princess this year....

Disney's Princess Half Marathon Individual
$120 by August 8
$130 August 9, 2010 to October 31, 2010
$140 November 1, 2010 to February 26, 2011

If people think they are saving money they will shell out the money earlier right? :teacher:

Has anyone tried to get the gift card that was already registered? I agree that people are going to wait longer next year if they offer these type of incentives so late in the registration process.

Wait!! The Princess is up to $140??? Whoa - that is a heck of a lot of money for a half!

And sadly it isn't only Disney Sports who are making this mistake. Making it cheaper to register for the race (or stay on property for the other divisions) is training the customer to wait longer to register or book and that turns into having to offer those deals. It is a a recurring cycle and is the result of poor planning.

I think they need to revisit their pricing policy on a lot of aspects. The half and full should not be the same price and they should offer early registration discounts that are better then these later offers. Offering a perk to people who have run previous races would also be nice to try and reverse some of the negative feeling that has been mentioned here. I plan on writing them a letter to show them my disappointment in these issues. It won't be mean or anything but will let them know that as runners we have other options that treat us a bit better.

Having Marathon Monday only for the full isn't as much of an issue since everyone gets it no matter when the register and having the additional perk for those doing the full isn't that abnormal. For example, in 2007 when I ran the Akron half anyone running the full got a free pair of Brooks running shoes but we did not. I didn't feel left out because I thought the people doing the extra miles deserved the extra perk. They did pay more to run that longer distance though.

Didn't they also offer a gym bag or something similar for signing up at an expo they were at?

I am so happy that I signed up the week after again. I'm stupidly still stuck back when the goofy sold out early. Not registering that early next year. If I do it. Or if I can afford it the way the fees are increasing faster then my pay.

Has anyone had any luck using this promo code? I tried last night and it said it was invalid. TIA
