We are going to Disney in Oct. My balance needs to be paid in August. I did not use my Disney Visa to book and I have about $800 in gift cards to put towards the trip.

My question:

Can I use my gift cards to pay towards my balance and still get the 0% using my DIsney Visa when I pay off the rest or does the 0% apply to the full amount only?

Thanks!

Yes, no matter what amount you charge to your Disney VISA card, that balance will have 0% interest for 6 months.

really??!! I thought it sounded too good to be true!

I did forget to mention that the 0% for 6 months is only on room packages (including tickets and/or dining) - not room only.

There is even a way to stretch that to 7 months! :) That 6 months starts on the statement cutoff date of the month that the charge hit your account.

Ok, say that after your deposit and the gift cards are applied, your remaining balance is due by 6/30 and say that your Disney VISA has a statement cutoff of 6/25. If you pay off your reservation early - say the 20th - the charge will be on your June statement and will be at 0% interest until the end of your December statement. BUT, if you pay off your reservation after your statement cutoff but on or before the final payment due date (well, you would have to pay on or before the final payment due date!) - say on the 29th - that charge won't hit your statement until July. And the 6 month clock starts ticking = 0% interest until your JANUARY statement close!

I was able to finagle this myself last year. :cool2:

one more thing to add....make sure that you do put the balance on your card with plenty of time for the Disney Dollars to post so you have them to use on your trip. I know w/ a package it has to be paid before 45 days.... so you just want to be sure you get your Disney Dollars in enough time. :thumbsup2

We put our balance on when we were 5 months out so we got all our Disney dollar ducks in a row before our trip! Disney Visa is wonderful though... we had all our spending money in Disney dollars ! it was great !!

So, you get Disney dollars too on vacation packages? I didn't think of that! I've only had my Visa since January and have about $200 in rewards. I will pay off my balance next month to give rewards time to post for October trip. Thanks for the tip!!

Thank you!! I think my statement closes on the 20th so I'll pay it on the 21st :) thanks for the advice :)

Oh you totally do !! We also book our flights w/ the Disney card (not part of the 0%) but you get the Disney dollars....

and we also use it to pay our utility bills and car insurance bills (then pay it right off)....anything to keep the points rolling. I'm telling you, as small as you think purchases might be, they add up fast and you'll have good Disney dollars by October.

Now, I'm not sure how much you know about redeeming the Disney dollars.... you have to order a Disney rewards card and load the Disney dollars to that. We went in September, but ordered our card in July. I only put the minimum on there to get the card delievered at the time, but I wanted to be sure I had the card in hand in plenty of time for our trip. then, a few days before, I loaded the rest of the $$ to the card. So keep that in mind too... you want to leave yourself time to get the rewards card delivered .... :woohoo:

Yes, thank you! I was worried about ordering the rewards card loaded with $200 since it comes in the mail. So, I can put $20 on it to order it, then can you transfer the rest over by phone? their website? Will it transfer immediately or do I have to allow a few weeks for those to transfer as well.

Thanks so much. This is all helpful!

You sound like me! :rotfl: We use our card for EVERYTHING. If only we had the option to pay our mortgage by credit card:sad2: I wish!!! I've had people ask me "do you ever pay with cash?" My reply is always "If gumball machines accepted credit cards you best believe I'd be swipin'!" I use it so much that I have the card number permanently etched in my brain. I don't even have to look at the card when I order something by phone or online. When we bought our airfare last month our monthly charges topped out at a whopping $5800. That's been our largest monthly total. We usually average about $3000 a month. We have a rule that if we forget to pay it in full even ONCE that the card gets cut up. So far so good. :thumbsup2 Good luck with your points earning, everyone!:grouphug:

You can just put 20 on it now, and the transfer of more points literally takes only seconds to be completed online.:thumbsup2

HAHA!!! I totally wish we could pay our mortgage with that card! We tried, didn't work. boooo!!!! I do love that pretty card though. We have the same agreement as you... if it doesn't get paid, it gets cut. it's a good rule to have !

We use ours for everything as well. We are currently signed up for the promo of 3x the rewards for charges for groceries, gas, and restaurants. I received a postcard in the mail with details for signing up. Unfortunately, I don't get very many extras because I do most of my grocery shopping at SuperTarget, which is considered a 'discount grocer' and does not count for the 3x program. I also buy gas at a discount broker, B.J.'s. But eating out counts!

Our bill is typically over $3k each month (we pay it faithfully every month like all of you), and we really enjoyed the last promo of 3x the rewards for purchases over 3k, with a maximum bonus of $100 Disney dollars. We got that extra $100. yea!

We use our rewards to pay for a few meals or towards our hotel bill. Its a great rewards program for Disney fans!

Remember to check the expiry date on the issued card. Once rewards are transferred to the card, they cannot be transferred back and must be used before the expiration or are lost. Most expire in December within a year of issue. I usually order a new card before our trip just to extend our expiration. Not that we have ever left a trip with any rewards still on there!

:thumbsup2

I believe that the balance has to be at least $101 in order to get the 0%. I make monthly payments on any of my DCL cruises and WDW trips when we go. I was told once by a CM that you have to put $101 on the cards to get the 0% financing. I have noticed in the past if I've paid less than $101 it doesn't show up in the finance section on the credit card statement.

Edited: Just pulled out my current Disney Visa bill and I made a $50 payment towards DCL and $100 towards WDW last month and neither charge appeared under my qualifying promotional financing section on the statement, which means I didn't get 6 months free financing towards those payments.

Just to add..you can get a rewards card at Downtown Disney @ WDW at Guest Services and avoid waiting for the card via USPS.

I have done this twice now, with little issue (had the card since introduced, and CM's weren't too savvy back then..which is why there was a delay, but thats it). They issue you a card, then you call Chase or go online and they instantly transfer your reward dollars to it. LOVE my Chase Disney Cards :)

Or seconds by phone. :thumbsup2

The minimum transfer to get your first rewards card is $20 but the minimum transfer to subsequent or to an existing rewards card is only $10 per transfer. In 2007, we were in WDW when my statement closed and more points became available. While we were waiting for our table at 50's Prime Time Cafe, I called the number to transfer points (800-436-7999) and had them transfer the new points to my card. Easy peasy.

Love my Disney VISA! :cheer2:

Our statement closed in the middle of one of our trips once. I called and had them transfer the points while we were standing at the POP bus stop to MK.:teeth:
