I found these boards a few months ago and have been a silent watcher/reader until now.

Anyway...my fiance and I are planning a possible Disney wedding and I have a vintage theme planned. So I thought I'd just start a thread here and see what you all thought about that? I am not sure how the two 'themes' will mix but Disney is vintage, right? LOL

What are your thoughts about vintage venues at WDW? Or should we focus on Disney land for more of a vintage feel?

I definitely think Walt Disney World has a better selection of vintage-feeling venues than Disneyland (where all the resorts are built in a modern style except the Grand Californian, and even that has a heavy late-1990s feel to its Arts & Crafts decor). Unless you mean that you are going for a "vintage Disney" theme, in which case maybe the Disneyland Hotel would be a good choice.

But if you're going for a more general "vintage" feel, you might check out the Grand Floridian's Whitehall Room & Patio or The Attic at BoardWalk Inn (my vote for most vintage-feeling venue at WDW!). Atlantic Dance Hall has an Art Deco feel, and Ariel's was used for a gorgeous Art Deco wedding a couple of years ago.

By "vintage", what time period do you mean? Carrie has some great ideas, and I think that Disney has a lot of different venues that could be great with anything from Victorian to 1970's vintage, all of which seem to be popular wedding themes lately.

My eras of interest are the 1940's and 50's. I was almot thinking saratoga springs and the boardwalk resorts seemed like promising options. Oh and there was that big trend towards asian style in the 50's that I thought might work well in one of the asian pavilions at Epcot?

This is fun!
More thoughts?

Our upcoming wedding has a vintage WDW theme (paired with a bit of winter decor).

Our place cards look like E-tickets and out table numbers are vintage posters of WDW attractions :)

If I were doing just vintage (and not WDW vintage), I would definitely pick the Boardwalk area to get married (maybe the crochet lawn or Sea Breeze Point?) & have the reception in Atlantic Dance Hall or the Attic :)

if your going for a post war/mid century feel, Atlantic Dance is the best. More Art Deco style events are there than any other place!

Why are you mixing the two themes? I mean maybe its good but why take a risk. Or you could check out for some of the mix like this on internet that would be better.

We ended up with a bit of a vintage look to our wedding without even planning or thinking about it! LOL

We had the 1920's Model A and we had our ceremony at SBP on the Boardwalk. My dress had a vintagy feel as well, it was a simple empire waist dress w/lots of beading and lace.

I didn't even realize it until after the wedding how everything worked so well together!

I would definitely suggest getting the Model A or another classic car (DFTW can help book other cars than just the Model A I believe)

Also, if you're going with Disney Floral and let them know you want a vintage look to your wedding, I know they can help with ideas for floral and decor.

There have been a number of weddings with vintagey feels to them and they all came out beautiful! There is one in particular I'm thinking of, but can't remember the brides name now...I'm sure you'll get loads of ideas here though.

Thanks so much for all your input! I think we've opted to get married in the Japanese Pavillion! This suits our vintage wedding theme just perfectly since asian style was so prevalent in the 1950's. The movie 'Sayonara' with Marlon Brando is what gave me the idea. I am now looking for a brocade dress or something that will give our photos lots of style and color. Something sort of 'Dorothy Lamour' with an asian edge? Definitely not going for white...woohoo!:cool1:

Oh, I just noticed that the Japanese pavillion isnt listed on the reception locations available...I wonder if it will break the bank to get married at one location and have the reception across the park...:confused3

You will pay the same per-person minimums for your reception regardless of where it's held. The only thing that would make an in-park reception cost more than one outside of the park would be if it had a very high venue-specific food and beverage minimums (like Bistro de Paris does) or required you to use a pricey entertainment package (like the Great Movie Ride does).
