My husband and I are hoping to travel to Disney World in August 2011. We are frequent travelers to Disney World, we even were married on the Disney Magic. We will be traveling with our 8 month old for the first time on vacation and I would like some advice on what there is to do in the parks for a child of that age.
Has anyone traveled with a very small child in August? Any tips? Obviously I know it will be hot and humid, but any advice would be great!!
Thanks!

I have never been in August, so my advice there would probably be just to watch the heat etc. But, I have taken both a 6mo old and a 11 mo old. They rode everything with us that they could. (meaning everything that didn't have a height restriction on it.) They both loved the colors, the sounds etc. I have THE BEST pic of DS at 6mo sitting on Minnies lap looking at her like she is the best mouse EVER, and the cutest pic of DD at 11mo laughing at Pooh. We did baby swap for the rides we wanted to ride, and it worked out great!

This is our first trip with DD 16mo to WDW but we did take her last year at 7mo to Universal. The big thing is to watch the sun and heat. The stroller I had stunk when it came to shade and I ended up buying a towel to help keep the sun off her. This trip I have a City Mini that has a great sun shade but I also have an extra extended sun shade to help as well. We kept a bottle filled with ice water for her as well and then make frequent stops in stores, etc to keep cool :)

When we take vacations to the parks we always stop for a mid day nap :) and swimming. This helps everyone get some downtime and then we will head back to the parks in later in the afternoon.

I've been checking and on this trip in June with DD will be 20mo she will pretty much be able to ride everything but the thrill rides :) That is one good thing about Disney is that kids of all ages can have lots of fun. We love Universal but it was not until the year before last that DD now 8 could ride most the rides.

I went a few year back with my 1 yo triplets in August. They actually turned 1 there and it was HOT and HUMID. I promessed myself I would never go back i nAugust. that year it was so hot that the girls were sick every day many times a day but even home they don't do well in the heat. There's nothing specific for them to do. they pretty much can go on every family ride and will love the lights, animation. I remember my girls pointing at things the entire trip and smiling. The liked some caracters and hated others like Pooh and company.

I'm sure you will have lots of fun like we did but simply watch out for the sun and be prepared to not do much if baby gets sick. We went in the morning, left the afternoon and went back at night. The girls loved it and i could tell by the twingle in their eyes.

We are taking my son to Disneyland in May when he will be a few days shy of 9 months. I am most worried about naps. He is a horrible napper right now and I am working HARD to get him on a 2 nap schedule. So, hopefully he will be doing that by this time (well, or I might have sell him to traveling gypsies if we don't get this figured out :rotfl:). Anyway, my thought was to let him nap in the stroller for his morning nap and just find a quiet spot and then go to the hotel for his afternoon nap. Is this feasible at 9 months or should I plan on going back twice?

Magic Kingdom was a lot of fun with our baby. Definitely watch the heat though. Maybe get one of those fans that clip to the stroller and bring a blanket (to drape over stroller) to shield them from the sun. They also sell those large canopies that tie on to your stroller. You can fold them up with them on it too.

When my dd sleeps she gets really warm, and she looked so hot and flushed.

Epcot is fun to do too.

eta: regarding naps... we were lucky that our daughter napped in the stroller. We just continued to walk around / eat lunch / whatever.
