The thing that I love the most about DVC is the flexibility. We can go and get a studio, one bedroom, two bedroom or Grand Villa whenever we choose as long as they are available. How far our "points" go is totally up to us and our vacation plans for the year. I am a frugral person, and didn't really think that DVC would work for us since we were not Deluxe resort stayers (only staying in moderates when we had an annual pass discount and perfectly happy with Values), but the first trip that we took a couple of weeks ago has immediately shown me the difference between those types of vacation and truly resort vacationing. We know we will be back often and it has taken some of the edge off the comando park style. We enjoyed so wonderful swimming facilities (and could have gone to other resorts to try theirs as well - pool hoiping priviledges - if we had wanted). Its just a different atmosphere and a different place.
I did all the math, did it again and finally figured that adding in inflation for the next many moons (we bought into Saratoga, so have about 49 years left), there is no way we could stay at the Value resorts for even a fraction of what our now "deluxe" accomidations are costing us.
The sales is LOW LOW LOW pressure, so if you are interested, call them. They will answer your questions and not bug you again if you don't buy. Its a wonderful system. There are also tons of resales on the market (where you can buy in for less than the 150 points that Disney requires) and its good to check those out as well.
Good luck!
