Disney Vacation Account Uses

No. "Magic Band" charges are actually room charges. It's charged back to your room via your band, not charged to the band. Room charges cannot be settled with the DVA. Instead, you'd need to request a gift card from your DVA and use that to pay for room charges, but I don't believe that will count towards the DVA bonus.

According to the "Disney Mom Panel", you can ask the front desk to use excess funds in your DVA to pay down your balance before you check out. Someone else confirmed they were given the same info when they contacted Disney by phone.

And everyone who's tried has failed. And the FAQ on the website specifically says you need to request a gift card in order to settle room charges.

I cannot speak from personal experience, but I've heard reports of people doing it successfully. Was just trying to give a suggestion for folks to try. Perhaps it depends on the CM at the front desk.

Can you point to any reports? All I've read is that the folks at the front desk can't even enter the DVA number as a gift card, like the DVC folks can do when they pay dues. Unfortunately, both the phone reps and the moms panel are historically unreliable. If you've are actually reporting it working, that could change things.

Thanks! When I get closer to my arrival date I may call my resort and ask. I just can't believe that someone hasn't found a way around this yet given how industrious we all are. :surfweb:

There is kinda a way around this. I booked the DDP with our Feb trip. Called and canceled DDP 2 days prior to check in. Instead of refunding it, they added on to the room as credit. I'm not sure if it's something the CM did or it's their policy to do a room credit if DDP is canceled that close to arrival.

Of course we spent the credit, and more... but now I'm wondering if we had a credit at checkout, would they refund to the DVA (original payment) or the CC associated with the room.:scratchin

Gosh, I'm kinda feeling like I'm being interrogated and starting to feel sorry I spoke up.

Sorry for the third degree. I'm just trying to understand the basis for your claim. I, too, have only seen it said and not experienced it. But the only reports I've seen have been that, even when the front desk enters the DVA number as a gift card it throws an error message. That's the technique that works for paying DVC dues. If there have been changes, I haven't seen the reports. That would be great news, but it just needs to be verified. Having bad information on the forum doesn't help anyone.

Agreed!

I just tried to use my DVA account info. to purchase tickets for a specialty event online. There isn't a place to populate with a GC or DVA number. Rewards cards and CCs are accepted. I thought that I would try entering the DVA number in as a rewards card. No go!

The DVA is not going to work for all online purchases and, to my knowledge, will not work for in-person transactions at all.

Wouldn't it be great if Disney would issue a "debit" card for the DVA so that you could use those funds at Disney locations instead of just for limited purchases?

FWIW, what I saw posted was that you could possibly have DVA funds applied as a credit BEFORE you check out. That way you're not paying your final bill with the DVA but rather reducing the bill with DVA funds prior to final settlement.

What event? I used my DVA to purchase tickets for MNSSHP and the Backstage Magic tour.

I plan to try this but I won't be able to report back intil late October.

I'd love to be able to do this but I'm skeptical about it until I see multiple posts about people having success in doing it. Do you have a link to the post? The last thing that I want to have happen is to have $XXXX in my DVA for the purpose of paying off room charges and then not have it work! I would much prefer to just ask for a refund of my DVA balance on a single Disney GC and then use that to pay down my charges before checking out.

In October, I'm trying this.
At the end of next trip, I'm going to CALL the number that I used to book vacation and ask to pay hotel balance, then give DVA #. Probably best to keep it simple.
I was going to do this last trip but I had so many problems w/ DVA that I was just happy that I got a working $500 gift card.

I'm confused how this would work. You're going to call the Disney Reservation line? Wouldn't the hotel be managing your reservation at that point? I would think you'd call the front desk from your room, and hope to get some call center then apply the DVA.

No one really knows how it's going to work. I don't know. I'm willing to try it. If it doesn't work, I'll try calling the front desk. I won't try in person. I think that's a dead end.

They were convention/meeting tickets. Orders for those tickets don't go through the regular Disney website.
I asked if I could do it over the phone when I went to book convention tickets online and saw there was no place to enter DVA or GCs. The DVA contact said no-dice. I'm waiting to see if this applies to the hotel too.
