I have been monitoring the comings and goings of the resales for the past 2 months with an eye towards buying a resale for VWL. After much consternation, I decided to buy though Disney, but the instant point availability and ROFR did not really figure into my decision. Disney is charging $92/point with Oct UY, all 2005 points(bankable) plus 2006 points come Oct. While the $92 seems high, one must then deduct $3.50 for no closing costs to arrive at the comparable resale price of $88.50. Since most resales do not include 2005 points, a further deduction of $10 for the value of the 2005 points would bring the resale comparable price to somewhere around $79. I would be hard pressed to find a resale that has closed at $79 for VWL recently and most seem to be in the $82-$86 range.
Therefore, excepting those resales that include some 2005 points, it would seem that Disney is generally a better value than resale. I also had a choice of UY's which made the decision even easier. Am I missing something here, or is my comparison valid ?

Welcome to the DIS!

The VWL resales have been getting premium prices around $90 lately. Some have been in the $80s but many very near Disney's price. So I don't think you hurt your self much paying Disney directly. Figure the contract size and multiply by the price differential and see if that amount of money is a deal breaker to you.

I don't think you can value the 2005 points at $10pp though. I'd value them at $7.17pp. ($92/36 + $4.61)

I agree that the "value" of the extra 2005 points are closer to $7+, but if I was unable to use them and decided to rent them out, I could get $10 which would reduce my overall purchase price by $10.
