Disneyland used to deny admission to long-haired male guests.

Wow, saw that on that snopes site.

Can you imagine? Sorry, Fabio.

A Cast Member was thrown into the Magic Kingdom lagoon and was electrocuted. False

This is a common myth surrounding Grad Nite at Walt Disney World. The story goes that some high school students threw Mickey Mouse into the lagoon at the Magic Kingdom, and the cast member died from electrocution from the air-conditioning unit inside the costume. There are 2 myths in this legend. First, there is no proof that Mickey was ever thrown into the lagoon. Second, the cast member would not have been electrocuted, as the character costumes do not contain air-conditioning units.

I'll bet he wished Busch Gardens had that policy. . .

How about the myth about Walt that he was dishonorably discharged from the Marine Corps, and that his discharge paperwork was hanging upside down in his office.

I also hear the PotC is haunted, can't remember which room.
I've also heard that they've used real human skeletons of PotC...I believe the DL one, tho.
Then there's the kidnapping and hair dying child molestors.
And a CM was crushed to death between the wall and one of the sets on CoP.
Have to remember more...

The part about human skeletons is true...at least the skulls parts. With the exception of 1, all the skulls are now fake. I forget where I read that though.

Wasnt it true that at one time you could not have facial hair and work in WDW? I also thought that it was true of long hair and tattoos? Was this true or a urban myth?

I spoke with a CM on our last trip and while they will hire men with facial hair, they will not let them work in the parks as children sometimes get scared by men with beards. I don't know about the long hair tho.

I also spoke with CMs about tattoos as we were at AK watching the trampoline jumping guys and I saw a tattoo peeking out of his sock. Apparently, you can have tattoos and work in the parks, but they give you an outfit that will cover them up. If they are in places where you would need to wear long pants or sleeves, they will place you inside so you don't die from the heat.

That's true. I have a friend (she's in her 50s) who was a CM in Disneyland in the 70s (I think it was the 70s...). She was a tour guide, and her dad was the vp of the ambassador program that Disney had. She said that there were a lot of limitations as to a CM's appearance.

I never really thought to even look. WOW!!! I can't wait to tell DH that he can't have his dream job of sweeping up the MK after he retires from teaching unless he shaves off his goatee(SP??) hee hee. I think I may add that you have had to be without facial hair for at least 10 years prior to your hire at WDW!!!!

I don't think Disney is as strict as it used to be. I remember seeing CMs with facial hair on my last trip. So he should still be good to go! :thumbsup2 My DBF wants to retire and be a jungle cruise tour guide! :rotfl:

They have all kinds of guidelines on appearances. I believe that right now they do hire men with facial hair but it has to be a very well trimmed mustache. No beard or goatee. As for tats, they need to be in a covered spot (and just because your costume has pants or long sleeves doesn't mean you won't be outside). There are even rules about jewelry. I don't believe they allow men with long hair and I know that they have a limit on how long sideburns can be.

A child was kidnapped, taken into a bathroom and drugged, had his hair dyed, wrapped in a blanket and finally was carried to the gates, only to be rescued by the security guards who recognized his shoes.

that is by far the freakiest story I have ever heard come from inside the disney gates because it can happen to anyone!!! :scared1:
Especially me being a young female and after what I experienced traveling through the underbelly of Paris this past Spring this officially has freaked me out.

It's not that disney doesn't let people "die" on the property, it's just that they have to be declared dead at the hospital by a Dr. I know it's like that in Fl, not sure about Ca. So, lets say a man dies in his house, he can't be pronounced dead until brought to the hospital.
I'm not sure you are posting this as an urban legend itself or if you believe that its true.

I looked at the WDW employment website a while back and it said woman have to have hair all one color, they can't have highlights.

She posted that because it is an urban legend, ie not true.

I wonder what the guidelines are for piercings, such as how many you can have in an ear or even what they would allow with facial piercings? princess:

as for the tattoo thingie majig there was a man who played bass in mud, sweat & tears at MGM and he had tattoos all up his arms, but maybe it was an exception because he was a musician or something? :artist:

I had highlights and they hired me and never said anything. It just has to look natural. So if you have dark brown hair with huge white chunks, no. But regular highlights that do only that - highlight - those are alright.

To the person that posted earlier - people argued for years for men to be allowed to have facial hair, arguing that even Walt had a mustache. They finally relented a couple years ago and now men can have a well trimmed mustache, but that's it. Men can't have earrings. No noserings, tongue rings, pierced eyebrows, etc. I had my ear pierced in the cartilege and had to take it out when I worked. Women can only wear one set of studs - no hoops. One ring per hand. A watch. Things like that. Not allowed to overdo it on jewelry.

I heard somewhere that people believe that the Haunted Mansion is actually haunted.

There supposedly have been a number of reported "sightings" in the Haunted Mansion. My old manager was telling me about it one slow night - one of her friends was a manager at HM and told her some of the things she'd come across. People have reported seeing someone sitting at the table in the music room. People have reported seeing someone at the end of the hallway where the candelabra moves back and forth. The manager told my manager that at the end of the ride, guests would go up to CMs and say things like, "I've been on this so many times - it really freaked us out when you had someone (at the end of the hall) (sitting at the table)" and when the CMs asked around to make sure no one was messing around, no one had done anything.

Obviously hauntings are pretty hard to prove, and will remain "Urban Legends" . . . but when you experience something like that, there isn't a doubt in your mind, regardless of hard evidence. I've seen too much where I work now to not believe it's a real possibility.
