Planning my next Disney trip...I really want to go the 1st week of either Feburary or March. Probably March. I'll be going with my sister and 2 nieces and she really wants to go the 1st week of December. We did the 1st week of December in 2004 and she loved it, but I just didn't care for it. I know, I know, it's Christmas time at the World, but I really, really prefer "regular" Disney. I'm glad I did it once, but really don't have any desire to go again at Christmas. This will sound stupid, but I hated that you couldn't look down Main Street and see the castle because of the garlands strung across the street. I didn't like that all my character pictures were of characters (except for Pluto) in Christmas outfits. I was sick to death of poinsettas, I missed all the beautiful regular flowers that are usually out. I got Christmas overload or something, I don't know, but I when we got home, I remember feeling sort of let down and saying "Ok, I don't need to do that again."

So it's kind of an issue now, I suppose I should just give in and go in early December, but I'm not excited about it. I was thinking of a compromise, but I don't know much about the week. Are there any decorations up the week before Thanksgiving? I thought maybe they would have started putting things up and we could get a bit of both.

Yes, they begin decorating around the resorts before Thanksgiving, but the full effect of the parks seems to be the "overnight" decor the day after Thanksgiving.

I'm actually excited to see the parks decorated again for the first time in 4 years. (I'm going to Dis-A-Palooza.) I can't complain, as I'm getting the food and wine festival a couple months earlier when the parks look "normal". ;)

Have you discussed how you feel about going during December with your sister? Sounds like going Thanksgiving week might solve the problem(only half the week will be fully decorated), but knowing that after Thanksgiving Day it will be extremely crowded. Or if you commit to going in December this trip, maybe your sister would let you choose the week for the next vacation. I personally enjoy going during December -but not every year. I do agree with you about the "regular" Disney.

Bah! Humbug!!

You're a mean one, Ms. Grinch.

;-)

i would say pre thanksgiving might be a good compromise.

we LOVE the holiday stuff- in fact, it is a big reason for our Dis trip that falls around DAP! But i can completely understand not being into it and wanting your classic WDW----heck, sometimes i want the regular park music and not Christmas carols, so I get it. :goodvibes

I dont know what its like during november only december. I felt somewhat the same as you, except i went there with the intention of seeing the lights. it was a bit much for me.
however, knowing that, i would return during the same time. I think it was that initial dissappointment that was the worst..because when i was there last week, i was remembering how great it was in december, and not worried about the lights or music!!tooo hot!

I understand what you are saying. We go a few times each year and usually one of those trips is during the holiday season, so I like seeing the decorations. BUT, if that was the only time I saw the parks...then yeah, that would bug me I think.

We have several of our family photos from Disney trips in frames around the house--and if all of them had Christmas stuff in the background, it would just seem odd to have those up all year, if that makes sense.

So I get your point. I say talk it through with your sister and see if she is willing to hear your side. Good luck.
