Disney treasure My experience

Disclaimer: I’m not suggesting that someone without cruise ship design experience can’t do a great job.

Here are my 2 cents. It’s not surprising the Wish class ships haven’t resonated as strongly with longtime DCL guests, especially those who’ve sailed on the Fantasy.

The person primarily in charge of the Disney design for the Wish class ships is the creative executive at the Walt Disney Imagineering. They helped design the Cleveland Botanical Gardens and Ohio’s Glasshouse before designing hotels and other buildings for Disney. They acknowledged that cruise ship design was new to them, and that just five years ago, had no prior experience in that area.

We haven’t sailed on the Wish class yet, but we are booked on the Treasure this summer.

We’re “setting the bar low” for our expectations based on the YT videos and feedback from experienced DCL cruisers, some were Pearl members who said the experience did not compare to the Fantasy or Wonder.

In my opinion, the Wish class ships seem to be designed more like floating hotel than cruise ships. This could explain why many have commented that the layout feels disjointed compared to previous Disney ships.

Unfortunately, unless Disney brings back the Fantasy for the 7-night Caribbean itineraries, we’re stuck between the Treasure or shorter Fantasy sailings to the Bahamas.

We’ve sailed on the Fantasy 15 times, and while the ship itself is fantastic, what truly makes each cruise memorable is the incredible cast and crew and the fellow Disney Cruisers we meet. 8-)

IMO: Disney would’ve been better off sticking with the Fantasy’s layout and overall theme, making thoughtful, smaller improvements, instead of a complete redesign.

"Not every change is an improvement and sometimes, no change is the best change." 😇
Everything you said is correct. I have sailed the Fantasy 9 times, number 10 next summer. I am very worried about sailing a Wish class (Treasure) for a 7 night this summer as well. I don't think the bars/late night entertainment venue is setup well at all compared to Fantasy. Adult areas in general are lacking on the Wish Class. I would even argue the teen clubs aren't as good on this class either.

I also agree with your statement about just using the Fantasy's layout and expanding/improving certain areas. unfortunately that's not what we got.

There is a book about making the Disney Wish and there is a chapter title "If it Ain't Broke, Fix it Anyway." That quote is just so indicative of what Disney as a whole is right now and it's sad. Also in the chapter they mention they could have copied and pasted the Fantasy, but it was too easy lol.

one thing i noticed was every time at the splash pad i could smell smoke, and figured out the smoking section is level 14 right above the splash pad - maybe a different spot would be better in the future

The Treasure would be a one and done for us if we hadn’t already paid for 2 cabins for our family in October. It will be a two and done for us.

We got home and booked a B2B2B on the Fantasy for next year. Sailing the Treasure made us appreciate the Fantasy so much more.
In what way?

Here is my 2 cents. We cruise the Treasure in February. HANDS DOWN our best cruise. ( this was our 5th)
We loved loved the entertainment. We hung out before dinner at the Jungle. Cruise bar for cocktails and music.
We thought it was the best Pirate Night. We love Rock music though. Loved the fireworks show to the movie soundtrack.
We loved the entertainment in the lobby. We often were surprised by jazzy band as we were walking by. Would often stop and just enjoy it.
We took the ship tour and had a great time.

I thought we would love the 1923 dinning because we love nostalgia but it felt small and the section we were in wasn’t very interesting.
Thought Marvel would be to loud but actually had fun with the trivia.
Loved the atmosphere and entertainment at COCO.
We spent the evening watching the superbowl in the periscope lounge and had a blast.

My favorite staterooms had been on the Wonder but really liked these layouts.

I also hate the 1030 pm luggage time. We had late dinning and went out for an after dinner cocktail and by the time we got back to the room we erected late. They did come and get our luggage but I stayed awake until about 1 am when they came.

Hate Hate the adult only pool. Way too small and crowded. The same with the lounge area there.
Liked the scat cat lounge but thought it was too small.

Overall the Treasure is now our favorite ship. We had ourselves booked on the Destiny but canceled it. Not crazy about the themes.

Movies- Most DCL Guests want to see the films still (or recently in theaters). So yes- lots of Snow White, Thunderbolts, Captain America makes sense. Next week it will be tons of Lilo & Stitch showings. Considering your stateroom TV has many of the classics I can see why they are showcasing films still in theaters.
I agree with this but at the same time think Disney is missing a chance to let grandparents and parents take their kids to the blockbusters of yore together.
Pirate Night- I LOVE Pirate night on the Wish class. That live music is excellent and Jack Sparrow makes a nice appearance. I think it’s nice they have the Mickey & Friends Pirate show earlier and something adults might enjoy more later.
We love Pirate Night on the Wish…are Wish and Treasure the same? Wish was our first cruise and our whole family enjoyed it, especially my husband who used it as an opening to get our kids into some of his favorite music. I think the other Pirates nights feel longer and a bit cheesier, but I’m still happy to do them with my kids. The Wish (and presumably Treasure?) are the only ones I would consider going to for my own enjoyment.
Messaging Guest Services- I agree on this. They had this feature to chat with them during covid via App and I miss it. Hopefully you send that feedback on to DCL if you haven't already.
My guess is that they actually want more friction so that people with a small problem decide to just suck it up rather than wait in line or on hold.

Yes, Wish and Treasure (and Destiny) will have the same Pirate Night show.

They do play a lot of older movies on the funnel vision I noticed.

True! I don’t really have a dog in this fight because I avoid the theaters and watching movies on cruises generally unless it’s a brand new release I want to see (I’m not a movie person and I don’t want to be paying for a Disney cruise to spend time watching things I can catch on Disney+ anytime anyway)—but I was thinking that Millennial and GenX parents might love taking their kids to see all the movies they saw as kids in the theater, and that grandparents would get even more of a nostalgia boost.
