Hi again, just curious about the travel insurance that Disney offers on their website. We are form Canada and are looking at booking our package through Disney. Just wondering if anyone has had to use this, how it went, etc. Thank you all again for fielding my millions of questions!

Luckily I purchased it on our last package. My mom got deathly ill a month before our trip. Her system went septic and she ended up on life support. Luckily she made it through, but needed dialysis.

Our only option was to cancel and fill out a claim. The company sent all the needed forms and were very helpful when I or her doctors had questions. They refunded the package and all flight costs with no problems. The whole process took about 30 days.

I purchased it again because you just never know.

We usually buy it when we fly to WDW. We have used it when DH went to the hospital and it covered out co-pay. It is especially handy if your insurance does not work at the hospitals near WDW. Also when we travel in the winter we get it in case our trip is delayed due to weather or illness.

I don't usually use it but for the investment I have in my WDW trip, I purchased it. Too many potential issues in my family and too many possibilities for weird weather to disrupt the plans.

If you are from Canada, I'd look at other (closer to home) sources of travel insurance first. You can probably find better coverage at lower prices. Check with your travel agent, if you are using one. Or your bank. Or your credit card company. Or CAA. Check your existing supplementary health insurance policy regarding travel outside the country. And yes, also have a look at insuremytrip.com.

PS. We NEVER go out of the country without some form of travel insurance. Small trips are covered through our credit card.

All of the above.

And when you're comparing, make sure to look at the differences between full refund of all parts, (airfare, hotel, tickets, etc,) for each reason (hurricane, illness, etc.,) versus just the ability to move or resched some. It can make a big difference in coverage and price.

I always buy good insurance cover for our trips but I prefer to select my own.

Thanks for the info. I was just concerned that with us being from Canada it might be more complicated to use than if we got insurance with a local company. We always get travel insurance when we cross the boarder for our Disneyland trips but we don't use Disney to book any part of that (we use airmiles and use the insurance offered by them). I will have to look into getting insurance from a different carrier and compare. Thanks guys!

Used insuremytrip.com to insure out Alaskan cruise this summer, not on Disney Cruise lines though. If I had booked it through my cruise line there would have been a bunch of restrictions. One was we would have have not gotten out money back, but rather it would have been used to book another cruise in the future a cruise. The other was we still would have lost something like 20-25% of what we paid. By using insuremytrip it was only $229 for the both of us with a full refund and we were able to get a pre-existing condition coverage. Not sure how the Disney insurance works or how expensive it is though.
