Because I will be driving to WDW, I will have my car there already, so I was wondering, do you think it is better to drive than take Disney transportation? I have read on here how WDW transportation sometimes can be a big hassle and a long wait and didn't know if driving my own car around would be less of a pain or not??

Thanks for your help!

I think it depends on a lot. Time of year, which hotel you're staying at, etc.

I stayed at Pop last October and used Disney transportation the whole time. It was awesome, we never waited more than five minutes except once we had to wait 15 minutes for a DTD bus. We got seats every time. It was great. Pop doesn't share buses so it's a direct route to the parks. Plus, when you go to the MK on the bus you skip the whole ferry/monorail thing that you have to do if you drive your own car.

If I was staying at a hotel that had several stops and shared with other resorts, I probably wouldn't do the bus because it would take so much longer. That's why I liked Pop--get on the bus, next stop theme park.

We always have a rental but have had no problem with the buses. Especially going to MK. The car is good if you want to go to other resorts.

We always stay at the Broadwalk Villa and that bus goes four hotels before it stops the Villas. We have found it saves alot time to use our own car. I know alot of people will say you have to use the Monorail or boats to get to MK. We enjoy using them . It nice pleasent way to get the MK. Part of going to disney to Monorail and since we don;t say at one the Monorail resorts we would have a chance to use monorail. It part like a part of the whole Disney expereince to ride the monorail or boat. :cheer2:

I take my car when we go to Disney. We use the bus system about half the time and the car the other. Depending on what park we are going to and what weather they are calling for.

We do stay at Values. The first time at Sports, which the bus and crowds wasn't so bad, but last trip was at Movies and the crowded bus was sometimes more than we cared for.

Next trip we will stay at either the cabins or POP. If staying at the cabins, we will most likely use the car daily (but only because I'm not use to their run times yet), but am willing to give POP's bus system a chance.

We had great experiences with the busses all except once, when we were going from MGM to Epcot on our last day... and we could have taken the boat, we just wanted to arrive in Future World rather than World Showcase that time. The Pop Century bus system in January was great. The only time I would recommend taking a car is if you're trying to go to another resort, or if you're going to a waterpark (you can leave things in your car and forgo the locker without having to ride the bus back wet). We fly to disney and have never considered getting a rental car, at least not unless some day we decide to venture offsite. Even though it might take a bit longer, it's really relaxing to not have to drive the whole time you're there... and the bus drivers are some of the most interesting CMs to talk to! I'd say having the option of a car to get to an early breakfast ADR might be nice, but unless you have to leave immediately instead of waiting 5 mins for a bus, give them a chance.

We're stayed at POR and WL and always used Disney transportation. On our upcoming visit in July, we're staying at Poly and will not have a car because we're flying and will not rent a car. It's kind of a break not to drive for a whole week, and we've never had major problems with the bus system at Disney.

We NEVER rent a car when we go to disney. We get a town car to pick us up at MCO and then do a grocery stop on the way.
Sometimes it can be a pain, you do need to add time when trying to make it to ressies and so on.
When we stay at the poly it is definitely the easiest, as we take the monorail more.
Sometimes the moderate resorts have a wait but I have seen HUGE crowds waiting at the All star stops. My husband has told me in the past thank goodness we are not staying at the all stars.
We have also seen the cars in line waiting to get into the parking lots and then you still have to get on a tram, etc. Whereas with the bus you get dropped off right in front. So I geuss you may have to wait for the bus, but you may also wait for parking, trams, and exiting the parks. With the price of gas, I would rather take the bus then have my car idling!

Are you staying on property or one of the downtown disney hotels??
I never had a problem w/ Disney Transportation (tg) but alot of people say its only a hassle when going from hotel to hotel.

We will be staying at Pop Century...and because I have seen some horror stories about Disney transportation, I wasn't sure if I should drive my car around to the parks and so on, or go ahead and take the transportation Disney offers.

Just back from 3 nights at POP during a moderate crowd (6 or 7) weekend. I WILL NEVER USE DISNEY TRANSPORTATION AGAIN!!!!!! IT WAS AWFUL!!!!!!! We usually stay off property. They have trams lined up at end of day and you are out of there quickly. Not so with closing of parks with buses. We waited and waited at MK and EP. We were at EMH on Friday -- hours 9 -12. We got tired and got in line around 10:30 10:45, thinking we would beat crowd before it closed. We waited at least 40 minutes or more. Our only good night was at MGM after Fantasmic. We rushed to the buses after it was over and got on quickly. I would use my car.

We always use Disney transportation and only a couple of times have we had mild problems (a wait of more than 20 minutes) out of several trips to CS and ASMo. However, if you can swing it, I always bring extra cash if I'm staying for Illuminations, Wishes, or Fantasmic and the park closes after the show, and catch a cab back to the hotel if it's looking really bad.
