We are traveling to disney April 13-18. The week before Easter. Do you think it would be too busy to rely soley on Disney Transportaion System or would it be more advisable to have a car to drive to destinations, since it is going to be very heavy attendance?

"Car or Bus"

is one of THE most-assured debate topics on this board. ;)

Thousands choose driving (and parking and traffic issues.)
Thousands choose the buses (and line-waiting and over-crowding issues.)

Take your pick.
You'll be in a lot of company with either choice.

If you are staying at a Disney resort, you only need to ride the bus (or boat or monorail depending on your resort) to the MK. All others are good for driving. However on our most recent trip, we pretty much only relied on Disney Transportation.

Where are you staying? We have found that Deluxe hotels seem to have the worst buses and the Value resorts seem to have the best buses. We debated getting a car or not for our recent trip a lot (noting the same things Robo mentions above). Also do you have kids? Do you have more than one that you might have to hold in your arms sleeping on the bus? We made it fine with our one child, but DH carried hims and I held the bags and the stroller on the crowded bus at night, but if we had two kids, I don't know how we would have managed. I do love just walking out and not having to worry about where to go or finding my car or getting into a hot car.

Totally depends on where you are staying. We loved staying at akl, but seems pretty far from the parks. If we stay there again, we would do a split stay or rent a car. This last trip we stayed at the poly and we with the monorail and boat, no need for a car.

Agreed it may depend on where you're staying. If you are staying at BC, YC, or BW, and you plan to be at EC or HS a bunch, I wouldn't bother. You can walk to EC and quick boat to HS.

If you are staying somewhere on the monorail near MK and plan to be at MK mostly, I would again probably not think about getting a car.

If you are staying elsewhere, maybe consider a car, but like another poster said, you're going at a busy time so you'll probably have to fight the crowds whether bussing or driving. To me, I wouldn't bother with the rental car if I'm on staying on site but that's just my opinion.

We're a 3 hour drive away but had to rent a car one time because mine broke down right before a trip...I paid for a rental that sat in the parking lot for 3 days and didn't move once because we exclusively used Disney transport. Never again. If I'm ever in the same situation, I'll turn in the rental upon arrival at Disney and just get another car when it's time to drive home.

PS If you plan on visiting Downtown Disney...don't drive!!! With the construction going on over there, parking is a nightmare!!

Oh one more thought...parking lots have been known to reach capacity when crowds reach Nuts level.

I think it's interesting that everyone is saying that it depends on where you're staying, when I think the fact that you're going during a very busy time is important. EasyWDW has that entire week at 10 (well, Friday and Saturday are 9), so I would think that that would mean a lot more cars on the roads. Plus, I believe that the first stage of closing is that they close the parking lots, so it's possible (although probably only at MK) that you wouldn't be able to get in.

There will be more cars on the road and more people utilizing Disney Transportation. Of course, Disney will probably put more busses on the road too.

OP, I am a "Disney" transport kind of thing. The waiting in lines & crowded busses don't bother me. My suggestion is to use Disney Transportation on Day 1. How bad is it? If it's too bad, drive on day 2. Then compare on your own.

We'd drive. Driving is usually faster, we don't like having to wait for Disney buses, then being crammed in like sardines, and most likely having to stand on a moving bus. Driving is just so much more pleasant and we know we can come and go when we please and will always have a seat. Plus if my mom goes with us, she uses an ECV. Disney buses are not pleasant for ECV guests. We quickly got tired of the rolled eyes, glares, and comments when she pulled up to the bus stop. An ECV is very easy to disassemble and fit into the trunk of a car. It takes less than a minute and with her handicap tag we can park in the handicap lots close to the park gates, as long as she is with us.
