We are doing a single night DVC stay both before and after our cruise with Disney transportation round trip. Everything I read seems to point to the fact that disny will tell us where to put our luggage morning of the cruise and will take it to ship for us and we will get a separate bus departure time to ride to port (with our day bags). I can't seem to find anything that explains the return trip other than get off the ship and onto a bus.

My assumption is that we need to do express checkout or the normal process for getting our bags through customs and then bring them on/to the bus ourselves? They don't transfer back to resort?

Only reason I'm stressing over this a bit is that we REALLY want to do Hollywood Studios on the day we get back so will be trying to get off the cruise and onto a bus as early as humanly possible (understanding the buses start boarding at 7:30). If we need to take our luggage with us will just leave at bell service at Boardwalk Villas.

I would call DCL directly on this one. I've only ever seen references to transferring TO the ship...not from the ship (aside from DCL checking your bags for you if you're flying out the day you disembark), but a quick phone call to DCL should confirm what they can/can't do!

When you debark, just get on the bus heading to WDW instead of an airport bus. In terms of your luggage. If you are heading to the airport later that day, I believe DCL can still take it, and can still do on board check in for you, even if your flight is quite a bit later. But if you don’t have a flight then yes, you’re probably going to have to lug it.

When you debark, you will need to go through customs with your luggage and take it to the DCL bus. This is true if you put your luggage outside your stateroom the night before and collect it in the luggage hall (for lack of the proper term) or if you decide to do express walkout and haul your luggage off the ship.

In our experience, the buses for the resorts leave as they fill up although I've read on here that some people think they don't leave before 9am? At any rate, I don't think going by bus will get you to your DVC resort as quickly as some other options. You could arrange a Minnie Van to your resort ($240) and set your pick up time. Private transfer companies would be faster, too, as would Lyft, etc.. Hopefully others will have some experience in how early those options can pick up guests.

Those who use Express walk off are told to be in the atrium at 7:30 (in our experience) with all bags. As soon as the ship is cleared by the port authority, those guests can be the first off the ship. We have personally never used Express walk off. Have fun.

We are staying another night on site. I think I just need to get used to the fact that we will not be doing RotR :-) (which was the biggest reason I bought the one day park tickets). I could cancel my return disney transfer and book a van or do Lyft but my guess is 8:00 is the earliest I could safely book them for and that only saves me an hour, maybe 2 depending on how many resorts my DCL bus will stop at before ours. Might be worth it. Will give it some more thought. Thanks.

You place your bags outside your room onboard the last night, and they will take it off the ship for you. You claim your bags in the terminal to take through customs, head over to the bus and hand them off to the driver to place beneath the bus. Once at your resort, you claim the bags from the driver and hand them off the the bell service, or take them with you to check in.

OR

You can keep your bags with you and take them yourself off the ship in the morning, through customs and then to the bus.

Some resort bus routes depart before 9AM, but most do not. When you ask DCL, they’ll tell you not to book anything in the parks before 12:30PM, because of the departure time, the hour drive and possible multiple stops.

Just drop your bags at bell services at your resort. We've done that several times. You do need to take your bags out through customs yourself and put them on the bus. They don't do luggage delivery to resorts.

What time does your flight leave the following day. If your ultimate goal is RotR I would go the following day super early. Assuming your cruise is sometime soon I don’t think you have any chance of making it to RotR even with express walk off and getting a lyft. If it’s a few months from now maybe the ride will be running closer to full capacity giving you a bit better chance.

Think I'm going to get a private car for the ride back and schedule it for 7:45. That will give us a fighting chance to get to Hollywood by 9:30-10:00. If we get to ride ROTR great, but otherwise we at least still have a full day in a theme park. The day we go is Feb 8 so historically a very slow time for the parks. This whole boarding group thing kind of threw me. I just assumed no fast pass meant we would need to wait in a 2-3 hour line if we REALLY want to ride it. Never occurred to me there would be no standby line whatsoever. How long did they do boarding groups for the falcon ride? Did they?

They didn’t do boarding groups for the smugglers run but it was by no means this popular. It’s tough to tell what will be going on in Feb, the ride is still not running at full capacity. I think if they do get rid of boarding groups the line will be much longer than 2-3 hours at least for the foreseeable future, so it would eat up most of your park time. Hopefully by Feb the ride will be running at closer to full capacity so it will take longer for the boarding groups to fill up.

We've cruised with DCL 4 times from PC. Each time we've stayed at WDW before and after. We stick the yellow tag on the big luggage. When it's delivered to the room the day of our arrived, we swap out the yellow with the DCL luggage tag (blue). They pick up the DCL luggage the day we leave for the cruise.

Getting off the ship, we pull our own luggage to the customs area and we're back at WDW by 9:30a. Not sure what is meant by express check-out cause they de-board the ship at 7:30a.

bakerworld, you have used express walk off. It requires hauling your own bags off the ship rather than having them picked up by the the crew the night before debarkation. 7:30 is often when the debarkation begins but it does vary on occasion.

We are planning to head to a park right away too so we are going to do a private transfer, we are also going to hold on to them and ask them to take us to the park (rather than having to wait for bus/monorail/ferry...We are going to go to the hotel, ask them to wait while we check our bags at bell services then go back to the car and head to the park. Not sure how much time it will save us but I figure it can't cost us any time, just the few extra dollars.
