Disney to Universal: How much time will it take?

We are planning to do 4 days at Disney and 2 at Universal mid-October. We will have our own car and are wondering how long it will take to get to Universal from Disney (probably from the POFQ).

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!

Well, the short answer is "it depends". The longer answer is "probably anywhere between 20 to 60 minutes"

The fastest way between Disney and Universal is I-4. I-4, like most major US Interstate Highways, can either be wonderfully speedy, or horrifically slow. I've found that on most days, getting home from work (which takes me past the entrance to Universal on either Turkey Lake Rd or Kirkman Rd) takes about 30 minutes. Time to Universal would probably be a bit (5-10 mins) less than that.

On days when traffic is moving more slowly, probably about 45 minutes. Really bad days, an hour.

Usually, things are ok to exit 75a which is where you want to go. Stay away from 7 to 9 and 4 to 6 on weekdays.

getting to Universal when they open on a weekday is out of the question for anything less than an hour? what would your strategy be?

Well, we don't use I-4 ever when we travel to US/IOA. We take 528 and then International drive north, veer off to Universal Blvd. at the "Big Bear" in front of the toy store and follow Universal Blvd. all the way to the parking lot entrance. We usually have no trouble. I'd rather be driving than sitting on I-4.
