My family of 3 adults are going to be staying at the Grand Floridian for a week :cheer2: We want to go over to the Islands of Adventure one day to see the Harry Potter thing. I have a 3 wheeled scooter I ride due to the inability to walk more than 200 feet. I was thinking about taking a taxi as the scooter folds up and can be put into the trunk of the taxi. Any suggestions or ideas on how much this would cost?

I looked on Mearstransportation.com for an estimate and it would be $70 roundtrip from the Magic Kingdom not including tips. It wouldn't let me set the pick-up point as the Grand Floridian.

I would agree that about $35 each way would be the meter amount. If you have a travel ECV, such as a Pride Go-Go series, it would very easily fit in a taxicab's trunk. I know I can get my standard size ECV (Pride Celebrity-X) in a trunk as a tight fit. Mears has at least 20 accessible cabs with lifts or ramps which cost the same as regular cabs; they do suggest that you call to reserve them in advance to make sure one is available for you. Mears' dispatch number is 407-422-2222.

Mears also has accessible shuttles that cost the same as their regular shuttles to Universal. (Which is $19 per person round trip.)

The day before you need to go to Universal, dial "0" from your resort phone.

When the Disney operator answers, ask to be transferred to Mears.

When Mears comes on the line, tell them that you wish to go to Universal the next day, approximately what time, and your resort. Also state that you need an accessible van.

They will give you a pickup time and location. Once again confirm that you have an accessible van.

The next day, report to the pickup location.

You pay the driver $19 per person CASH for your transportation.

Now normally, this is a shared ride, but due to the limited capacity of the accessible vans, it is very likely that you will have a private ride.

When you arrive at Universal you will be given a voucher for your return trip.

You can give them your pickup time when you arrive OR call them up to 2 hours before you wish to depart and schedule your pickup time. The phone number is on the voucher.

Remind them that you need the accessible van for the return.

Then report to where you were dropped off at the appropriate time and you will be returned to your resort.

If you would like to pay for the transfer by credit card, drop by any Mears desk at the airport before proceeding to Disney. You can purchase Universal transfer vouchers there with a credit card. You will still need to call the day before to make the actual reservations.
