Disney to cancel FPs if room is cancelled

Because its really not fair that people having legitimate split stays lose out on FPs. Under this rule someone staying 6 days in two 3 day reservations has less of a chance to get FOP or SDD than someone staying 4 days total.

But that may be how Disney chooses to run their business. It really doesn’t have anything to do with fair or not fair. And circumventing rules isn’t really the best thing to do when you don’t like how a company chooses to run their business. It only hurts other guests in the end.

Why? It actually helps them use up random “orphan” nights in rooms. They nights will just go vacant instead?

Someone made a point earlier in the thread about extra expenses involved in split stays. Moving your luggage, checking you in a second time, etc.

I'm not against split stays, but It's probably easier and more profitable to get you checked into one resort.

Checking in shouldn’t add any extra costs. You can do that on your phone and no matter who is in the room they have to check in. Luggage would be the only possible savings.

Maybe. But if vacationers find Disney is making split stays at WDW difficult, guests can always rethink their plans. Like...fewer total days at WDW because the family decided to enjoy half their vacation at Uni.

That's just crazy!

It also appears inconsistent with the reporting that you have 48 hours to rebook an onsite stay. It also makes no logical sense why they'd cancel fastpasses for someone who changes resorts. I get the booking them for a split stay - but cancelling booked ones for days you ARE onsite is completely illogical and screws a lot of people without actually closing any significant loophole. If you're onsite - you're onsite.

I have a split stay booked for August. I booked our first three days at POP because we don't have enough points to stay at BCV for the entire trip.

I’m seriously thinking of canceling our first reservation and head to Universal for those three days.

split stay at 2 onsite hotels confirmed or speculation at this point?

Which part? The FP window absolutely no longer spans both legs of a split stay. I (and others) tried this out today with dummy reservations. The FP window only opens for the first leg of the split stay. Just like how ADRs work with split stays.

I think it would be like in the example above if you change the reservation to another resort altogether - like change the 8 day poly to an 8 day YC, you get the grace period? But if you split it, you lose the "new" part. But in some ways, it doesn't make sense to me that it would work that way, since either way, new resort or split, you're creating new reservations...

That make no sense. If you "change" a reservation - there is no gap and never any need for a grace period. The grace period only would be a relevant factor if there's actually a gap between cancelling a reservation and creating a new one. To me - this is the key point that needs to be clarified - what exactly is cancelled. We're already seeing the standard Disney contradictory stuff. I assume we'll be having a lot of people testing out scenarios over the next month.

What a JOKE! Who do we contact for complaints? I may as well take my business to universal for the second part of my trip.

This really comes down to 1's and 0's it seems. The IT dept has made the link between the reservation number and FP's without a common sense solution for split stays. The program as written may not be able to link the split stays, so I see a lot calls to CM's to fix this bug...did we expect anything more from the IT dept ?

I agree - I was trying to clarify the two different scenarios, which a pp had talked to a CM about...but my understanding is, if you "change" a reservation, you are cancelling and rebooking, essentially.

If they were truly linked to a single reservation number, then there's no need for language about a 2 day grace period. There's something built into the IT that will reassociate orphaned FPs to a new reservation.

Yes, the Fp's can be held until reassigned to a different number but not to the split stay number already in the system..should be able to do so with a little more time...maybe?

Wow! this stinks! We do split stays on every vacation! We also change resorts frequently - for various reasons.

For example:
This coming Dec we have a stay booked at Gran Destino for 2 nights, BLT (rented points - can't be changed) for 4 nights in a 2 bedroom villa and then YC CL for 4 nights. We won't be able to get any of the hard to get FP+ despite a 10 night stay!!! And we can't change now! How is that fair?

I also spoke to a CM today, regarding my split stay in November. She confirmed that split stays will be treated as 2 reservations, so I’ll have 2 separate fast pass windows if I keep the split, which I’m now debating.
