From today's WSJ

"Walt Disney Co. plans to unveil Wednesday its first foray into residential real estate in more than a decade with a pricey vacation-home development in Florida's Walt Disney World."

" Disney will offer homes priced between $1.5 million and $8 million in a state where the foreclosure rate remains among the nation's highest."

Just what Walt would have wanted

I maybe mistaken, but I believe these single-family homes are part of the Four Seasons resort development and golf course community being constructed in the Northeast part of Disney World property.

So if all of us put our money together we can start our own time share... Only problem, all Disers go the same time every year....

Yes, I also thought this was old news from a few years ago when they closed Eagle Pines golf course to build these homes.

I just came here to post that! :rotfl2:

I think this is important to note:

Fewer than 30 lots will be available for sale this year, with the first homes expected to be finished in 2011.

From the FAQ:

What is the price range of the homes at Golden Oak?
We anticipate that homes will range from approximately $1.5 - 8 million.

Who wants to loan me 8 million dollars?

Based on the picture in the article. It is located at the end of Bonnet Creek Parkway at Vista Blvd directly across from PO-Riverside adjacent to Ospry Ridge Golf Course on the back road to the MK and Fort Wilderness.

The entry road and gate are was almost complete when I was at WDW in May.

Wow, I wondered why they were building roads on the other side Ft. Wilderness just past the old railroad tracks.

If the housing is strict in Celebration, I can only imagine what it will be at Golden Oak.

I'm confused :confused3, I thought they got out of Celebration because they didn't have enough control over what people did to and with their own homes. Now they are selling this as a World of Privledge and Access (just as Walt invisioned?), charging 1.5-8 mil and they think they will be able to control this? What about voting, etc.? I though they had some employees living in trailers on property so they could fulfill some voting requirement regarding what is done on property while having complete control of the vote. I wonder what throwing a bunch of 7 figure homeowners into the mix will do to this? What could possibly go wrong :sad2:

I'm not a fan of Disney selling off their property. There are so many things that I can see going wrong there. Can the homeowners complain about the fireworks if they want? Maybe not because they already exist. What if another park is added and the new park wants fireworks? It's not going to be grandfathered in. What about the land set aside for conservation? That is now being cut into. So now there's even less space to add anothers theme park. Ok, so the space was already originally being used for something at one point, but I don't like that the Four Seasons is going there either. I'm really not a fan of this at all.

Well darn!!! I tried to sign up to receive the information but they haven't registered in South Carolina yet so they can't "solicit" my business yet. :rolleyes1 Guess I will just have to save my $1.5-8 million for now.

I'm thinking that perhaps it will be an enclave for wealthy people and celebrities.

The rest of us buy DVC...

The first step for those interested in purchasing a home or home site at Golden Oak is to secure a position on the Priority Reservation List . Your position will be secured upon receipt of a fully executed Lot Release Priority Agreement and a refundable $25,000 deposit.

HAHA...that made me laugh.
