My youngest daughter just turned 15. On Long Island, that means it's time to start thinking of next year's Sweet 16.

Around here, Sweet 16's can rival weddings in other parts of the country... out of control crazy expensive. What we'll be doing is relatively tame. What we did with her sister was a party in the local Knights of Columbus hall. One of my colleagues is a DJ and we'll hire him again. Their caterer is the one we now use for parties, so the food will be easy.

Her sister did a Tiffany blue party 2 years ago. It's her favorite color, and she looked lovely in it.

Daughter #2 is thinking of doing something-- anything at this point-- having to do with Disney. She doesn't want a copy of her sister's party. That might make anything Frozen or even Under the Sea kind of tricky, since the colors are too similar. She's not sure whether she wants a long poufy dress, something less poufy or a short dress. Lots of time to sort all that out.

We'll be going to WDW in July, so I want us to have some idea of where we're going. Maybe the table numbers can be K posing with characters... one or two character meals can crank out a lot of photos. Maybe instead we'll do ride names/photos for the table numbers or centerpieces somehow.

We've checked pinterest, but there's so much there! So I'm asking for anything you can think of to include. As of right now, the theme is incredibly vague, so anything goes. It's got to be kind of budget friendly... in addition to our WDW trip this summer, we're looking at college tuition for 2 kids next year.

So, what can you guys come up with?
Thanks so much!

Our friends did an Alice in Wonderland theme for their DD's sweet 16. She borrowed teacups/saucers/pots from friends and placed them on all of the tables. You could have a photo booth or make a "selfie" booth with Alice themed props. Maybe play some kind of game where they have to switch tables?? (like in the movie where they switch seats)

OMG. We did a Disney Princess theme for DD's Sweet 16. We're in Fairfield County, Connecticut, just a ferry ride away from you by the way.

Every table was a different princess. We got the Disney glass Cinderella slipper engraved with the date, etc. The glass slipper sat on an elevated glass tray with light blue votive candles surrounding it. For the Snow White table, I bought a red glass apple, which was also on an elevated glass tray with white votive candles around it. For the Belle table, I used a glass dome over a red rose in a crystal vase with yellow votive candles around it. For Sleeping Beauty's table, I used a large pageant crown atop an elevated glass tray with pink votive candles around it. We had a Tinkerbell table too. We found a pretty lantern, painted it white and put a tiny lit up tinker bell inside it with lime green votive candles. For Ariel, we bought a beautiful jewelry box that looked like a treasure chest covered with shells. Out of it spilled a silver fork, pearls, and other Ariel paraphernalia. I believe her candles were lavender. The place cards were ivory with ink matching the princess's colors. We had black tablecloths so that everything would pop. The cake was spectacular! The bottom layer was Ariel, all beachy colors, shells, turquoise, lavender. The middle layer was metallic gold roses for Belle. And the top layer was a pink pillow with golden tassels with a glass slipper on top. My daughter wore a white gown with white flowers, rhinestones, and sequins and a matching tiara.

It was so fun and everything worked out well. Enjoy your planning.

The decorator i hired for my sons graduation party recently did an amazing Alice in wonderland theme for a quinceanera. It was a brighter theme that focuses on all parts of the movie. You could go so many ways on that. Focus on queen of hearts and do a black white and red theme. I would look on Pinterest.

My first thought was to stick to the classic characters.

Mix in MIckey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto tables and themes.

Mickey tables would have red cloths and black and yellow accents. Maybe some white gloves worked into centerpieces somehow.

Minnies is red with white polka dots, bows, etc.

Goofy is orange, green, black a little bit of bright blue

and so on

food stations could be themed along the same lines. Goofy's candy table, Donald's seafod, Mickey's veggie garden
and so on

or you could maybe theme after a film that came out the year she was born---2003 would be Brother Bear or Finding Nemo (Australian food and theming highlighted with Nemo and the gang?)

or section up the room into "lands" of Magic Kingdom, with decorated tables and a themed food station in each.
