I'm wondering about Disney-themed outfits for my girls. They aren't huge into characters or princesses, but I think that with the excitement of the vacation, they might become more interested. They will be 9 when we visit, and at this moment they do not know of the trip. We aren't sure whether to surprise them last minute or let them know about a month in advance.

What are your opinions on dressing up in special themed outfits? I was thinking of one day of princess for MK (I bought simple yellow and pink jersey-knit dresses that I'm going to embellish to look like princesses; they will not be too costumy and they'll be comfy to wear all day). I'm also thinking of something safari-themed for AK and either Star Wars or Toy Story for HS. I did pick up some Mouse-themed shirts that I'll bring down to give them to wear to help save on souvenir costs.

If you are in favor, could you link pictures of what you've done for your girls. I'd love to see ideas.

Thanks!

I don't have girls BUT I think I would at least once for a special event day!

I plan to have a different Disney t-shirt that relates to each park/theme while we are visiting for our DS.

I voted "yes". DD is 5 and I buy 2-3 Disney themed dresses on Etsy per trip and she really likes it. The way I see it, she's not going to want to wear an Alice in Wonderland or Duffy applique dress for much longer, so I'll take advantage of it while I can.

We did Disney themed outfits each day (they were 7 and 9 at the time of the trip) and I am already planning themed outfits for next time and they will be 9 and 11 (and the little ones of course :D will be 4 and 5/6). Even my husband wore two Mickey shirts as did I ;) and I wore a nice sundress on the day the girls wore their princess dresses

totally a must do with kids. I think they will get a kick out of it. :thumbsup2

I agree that it is a must do. We are making shirts for my daughter to coincide with each resort!

We haven't gone yet ' but I'm planning on doing coordinating shirts for the whole family. I love the way they look in pictures. the disboutiques thread has lots of amazing outfits.

We've done matching shirts on our last 3 trips and I'm currently working on them for this trip. We have 8 people on a 10 day trip, so I have ALOT to make!!! I enjoy it and it adds to the excitement.

I voted no. My 8 year old might get a kick out of it but she's very opinionated about what she wears. (My son would have hated that idea at 9, or even 5 just because he's never been cutesy). Seeing how your girls are 9 years old, they may or may not be into it. Is there a way you could test out the idea? When we did a surprise trip, we would say "when we go to Disney," and the kids thought I meant in a couple years. That way, I could ask them their opinions on things and include them in the planning. I'd run it by them if at all possible before spending the time and money on it.

We have always done it for the whole family BUT I have guys that do not care what they wear and just try to keep mamma happy. A nine year old girl could go either way. If you plan to tell them before the trip, just ask them what they think. If you go with a surprise idea, I would take the shirts, but take plenty of their regular clothes just in case.

I say no. If they aren't really into it, they won't enjoy it and would probably feel a little silly wearing them.

I vote yay! We're planning ours girls first visit and I'm having just as much fun planning their outfits as I am the trip itself!

I did not vote because at that age it totally depends on the child. If you were talking about little kids then I'd say go for it. But by 9 a lot of kids are more opinionated about what they wear. It could go either way. You know them best but I would consider either telling them and having them choose outfits or keeping it low key.

I bought my DD who was 10 several different Disney themed shirts for Christmas before our trip. She was thrilled with them all and wore them all. My DS was 5 and he had a lot of Disney themed shirts already. They both got interest and attention in their shirts from CMs and other park visitors. It was fun. Eeyore liked the Eeyore shirt I had on at Crystal Palace.

I have several pictures of ours I can post when I find them. Our kids were 9mo, 6, 8, & 9, and we took my brother who was 13 at the time. I've made him into quite the Disney fan, so he was all about the matching outfits. I made matching skirts for my 3 girls, and painted characters on shirts for all the boys. They loved it, and all of the pictures look great. I mostly did all of that for scrapbooking purposes :rolleyes1

We are planning a first time visit, and I've also found it very fun to find some really unique shirts beforehand. My plan (and the trip is a surprise) is to let our daughter (8...fashion opinionated, turning 9 in the parks) open a box of shirts I've collected as a present on the road trip down. She might think they're lame. She might not. I bought myself 3 and DH 1. I'd like us to "theme it up" reasonably, but look nice and pulled together in the parks for pics at the same time. So I think dolling up some pink and yellow dresses as a "nod to" princesses is a great idea!

I have a 4 year old and I have a different disney themed outfit for everyday---somedays two! :) I use a variety of different up cycle designers who take disney tees and make them into dresses and short sets! I cannot wait for her to wear them......

Would you mind giving the names of some you use to up cycle the tees? Thanks!
