Hello All,

Looking at becoming a TA specializing in Disney, Universal etc. I was wondering if I’m an independent contractor for an agency, am I considered an employee of Disney or an independent contractor of Disney?

TIA

Disney does not have Travel Agents. They have people who work in their call center but they are not travel agents. You would work for an agency that is authorized to sell Disney Vacations. And you'd more than likely be an independent contractor.

You would need to get a CLIA, and Iota number and maintain it. And a lot of other things to consider. You need to gather clients and remember you do not get paid until they take their vacations. Don't know how much you want to work at it. Most people want to work part time. No such thing, they call you at all times and you do the leg work. And if they cancel there is nothing you make. Just being honest with you. Not trying to discourage you.

An independent contractor is self-employed. Also you will be in no way an employee or contractor of Disney. You will be an independent contractor of that agency. Read this from the IRS to understand more what being an independent contractor means: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/smal...ependent-contractor-self-employed-or-employee You’ll need to become familiar with self-employment tax. (And do realize independent contractors often don’t get benefits like health insurance or retirement.)
