Disney Studios vs Disney MGM Studios?

I just watched the vacation planning video today and noticed that they only referred to the "Disney Studios", even the entrance sign looked like had been edited to remove the MGM.

On the WDW website it is still listed as Disney MGM Studios.

Anyone have any insight?

I think the legal agreement that Disney had with MGM is over. I am not sure if they tried to keep the name, or preferred only the Disney name.

The picture we had taken Wednesday in the park with Mickey has a sign that says, "Disney MGM Studios" behind Mickey. This isn't the main sign into the park, but the MGM letters were bigger than the word Disney. I know all the CM's use the term "Studios." To me it will always be MGM.

I spoke to Jim Hill of Jim Hill Media about this a few months ago. The story going around is that Disney started anticipating the end of their agreement with MGM this year, including the use of the name "MGM." They started making plans to go it alone, even to the extent of editing out the MGM from the shot of the Studios last year.

Now, though, I hear that the partnership may not be over just yet. Disney seems to have stopped with the conscious effort to re-brand the Studios, and perhaps these two kids can make a go of it. We'll see in the near future, I'm sure.
