Hi Everyone,
While this isn't exactly budget, I'll post it here, since I was on my to (hopefully) do some serious sale shopping.
The Disney store in our mall has closed. (Poughkeepsie)
An associate in a store nearby said the Danbury one has also closed. They both are busy areas.
What's going on?
I was so disappointed......

I was at our local Disney Store here in northern Illinois yesterday. The lady I always talk with who works there said that Disney bought back the stores from The Children's Place. She was very happy to be "Disney Owned" because she is once again a Disney employee (with the perks).

Perhaps the new Disney mgt had to cut back some stores?

Somewhere on the Theme Parks board is a HUGE thread on this. Disney only bought back select stores the rest are closing.

IMHO this is not a huge loss. As an adult I have long ago quit going there. They had NOTHING I wanted.... (Hint, not all Disney fans are between the ages of 2 and 7)

Was in Winston-Salem, NC this week and that store had closed as well.

I agree with pp. They used to have such cute grown up stuff, now it is the same things you can get in Walmart.

The store in our mall was bought back by Disney and they finally started having stuff we liked. Our joy was short lived when we learned that it is also a store that Disney has now closed. Our nearest store is about 100 miles away so no more Disney shopping for me.

That could have been me writing your post except our nearest store is now a five hour drive away. Actually, since the DS stopped stocking nicer and more adult oriented stuff we had mostly stopped shopping there since my girls were older but now I have a little one again and I was loving the Disney Store - there all the time. I'm really missing it already. I'm sure the mall is missing me too because that was the main reason I went to the mall. Actually I haven't been back since the Disney Store closed about a month ago.

Yep...New York is down to just 2 stores now from what I have heard. One is Syracuse which luckily is only an hour from me so once in a blue moon I can still get my Disney fix. :sad2:

Which stores are you referring to?

Hi! I'm from Oriskany. We were at the Syracuse store on Saturday, and picked up some good stuff on clearance. (t shirts 2.99, purse 5.99, nice tote for $10) It seemed like they were clearing out a lot of stuff. I asked why the store seemed so bare and they said they were getting fall stuff in soon.

The store is awfully small for such a large area. Wish they would enlarge it. Maybe when Carousel becomes a megamall, they will! :)

Valley Mall in Hagerstown. The Camp Hill store closed too.
Gotcha!:thumbsup2 Did you know the Disney outlet stores in Hershey and Lancaster(Rockvale) are both staying open? At least they were about a month ago.

How do you find a list that has which stores are closing on it?

actually, mostly upstate new york lost some.
there are still quite a few in other areas of NY (queens, lake grove, bay shore, garden city, hicksville, etc).

hth:)

The one in the Milford, CT mall closest to me closed right before Disney bought all them back. We were all shocked as the store was always busy, with lines at the registers.

I think the one in Trumbull, CT is still open, but I'm not sure. Luckily I work a few blocks from World of Disney in NYC to get my Disney fixes. I really had stopped shopping at the regular Disney Stores when they cut back on the adult merchandise.

Even though the Disney stores are once again owned by Disney you still can't use a gift card purchased at World of Disney at the other stores. Just in the World of Disney and the parks. I don't get why, but I was listening to a cast member explaining this to a very irrate customer last week.

I cannot believe the one in Milford closed. I agree with you that store was ALWAYS busy. Do you know if the one in Meriden is still open? For some reason I think that one closed as well.

As I understand it their was a dispute over the quality of some of the stores. Disney thought that Kids Place was not keeping them all up to the Disney Standards as far as how they looked... the end result was Disney pulling the plug on the joint venture and as you see the closure of some stores.... I know the one in a Mall near my aunts house clearly went down hill over the years... when it was new it was almost like going into a Disney store in one of the amusement parks... last time I visited it was much smaller and have more of a Dollar Tree feel... I'm guessing it will be closed if it isn't already.

The one at our mall (North Olmsted) is staying open according to the people who work there. The stores in Parma and Strongsville (closed over a year ago) are no longer open. We usually only go to the mall for The Disney Store and JCP where we get our hair cut. I agree that the adult stuff is not worth it but my kids still love going there.

The one in Trumbull, CT is closing too. There is a sign in the window saying that even the fixtures are for sale. They are almost out of merchandise and the entire store is stocked with this one print with a character I don't even recognize.

I actually liked the Milford store better than the one in Trumbull. Milford was always well-kept, and clean, though I agree with everyone else about the general merchandise selection.

Too bad. I hope something reopens in the area soon.

Hi there! A friend of mine is a teacher for Oriskany. I am hoping to get to Syracuse soon. Can't wait for DestinyUSA to open!

We went to Sangertown today but there is just nothing really there anymore. Before I mainly went for the Disney Store and Target and maybe some JC Penney's but now unless there are really good sales somewhere, it's not worth the gas money to drive up.
