Disney stock question

I didnt know which board to post this on so Im doing it at this one. I want to buy my 2 daughters ages 10 and 12, one share of disney stock each. I saw a web site where that can be done but after you buy the frame etc... the price comes to more then the stock itself is worth and I need 2 of them. I have never bought stocks before. If I just call a stock broker and tell them to buy me 2 shares of disney stock will they do that? IF so, will I receive the actually stock certificate so I can give them to my daughters? Would it be cheaper to do it that way? I thought my daughters would like something like this then they can learn to track the stocks and if they choose to buy more then they can do that. Thanks.

I consulted my personal financial advisor (my DH!). He said a broker probably wouldn't get the stock for you because of the cost to him (wouldn't be worth it), but if you go to Disney.com and click on Inside the Company Directory you'll get a pop up bar. Click on Investor Relations. On the side bar, click on Stock Information and How to Invest in Disney. You'll get the information you'll need. Hope this helps!!

Unless something changed, to purchase stock from the Disney Company, you need an initial purchase of $1000.

It looks like it would cost you around $71 from oneshare.com to buy a share of Walt Disney Stock, have it framed and then mailed to you. So if you consider that a reasonable price for a wallhanging, then go for it. The company says that provides unfolded shares, and that's something special, because all of the stock certificates that we have did come folded.

If you know someone who owns Disney stock, perhaps you can have 1 share transfered through the company. I know we have given 10 shares of stock as gifts, but these were with dividend reinvestment plans of the company.

I think that the stock certificate is nice enough to be considered a wallhanging, and it should stimulate an interest in shares of companies, and our economic system. I learned to add while sitting on my grandfather's lap. I was adding stock dividends, but didn't know that!

If you pay $71 for one share of Disney stock, just remember, one share is currently worth only $21.77.

I had this same intension last year as Christmas presents for my DGDs. IMHO, it wasn't worth it then, and still isn't for just one share of stock. It's just as they say...an expensive paper wall hanging!

IF the share goes up in price to say $80, you will still have the "problem" of cashing it in, paying commission. So, I think you really have to think of this as an ornament and a teaching tool, and not as an investment.

Ive decided to not buy the stocks. I dont want to pay 80 bucks a piece for stock that is only worth 20 something dollars. Maybe someday when I have money burning a hole in my pocket but not now. Thanks again for all the advice.

If you are interested in the Stock Purchase, but not necessarily the actual stock certificate you could purchase through Sharebuilders.com.

This is what I did after finding out the cost of the one share with frame. I was able to purchase 4-5 shares for the price of 1 share, but I do not have the cute Disney Certificate

after checking with the broker this afternoon there is only
one possible minor problem with acquiring a single share of
Disney and that is ONLY If you do not have an account
anywhere already. The broker said that this is a regular part
of their business every xmas. Many new grandparents buy a
single share of disney for their grandchildren because of all
the characters on the share of Disney stock. At todays price
the share can be obtained for about 25$, that includes all
costs. The only minor problem is for people that would say,
walk in off the street unknown to a broker. There is a new law
that requires positive I.D. for anyone purchasing stock. Two
forms of I.D. including a picture I.D. will overcome this slight
glitch. So if you already have an account, no problem. If you
don't mind giving out enough of your personal info to prove
who you are, then still no problem. Don't have 25$, now you
have a problem.
