Disney springs bag check

I’m not sure when they started. I think they started bag checks for Downtown Disney in CA after the Pulse Nightclub shooting.

The shooter had recently been to WDW with his wife and kid. There were rumors that he had been planning to attack WDW but I don’t think there’s any proof of that. Basically, they didn’t want any weapons anywhere people were having fun on Disney property.

Disney Springs wasn't doing bag checks last week. Only temp checks, which are ending soon.

Don't recall bag checks when were were at Disney Springs in 2019. In any large public gathering they usually put in place reasonable precautions for everyone's benefit. I know that sports arenas and casinos inspect purses when entering and I don't have any issue with that. No one should be carrying weapons, explosives or other dangerous materials in such places. I think it is fairly obvious why those are a bad idea. At times, places may also step up security due to information made available to them by law enforcement. I think it should also be obvious why they don't broadcast that to the public.

I'm guessing the poster meant the security walk through, not necessarily the bag check! I still call it that as well, even though they don't physically check you bag anymore unless you beep!

They don't do that at DS, though. At least not at the entrances near the bus stops or walking from SSR.

Yeah, we walked from SSR yesterday. There was a CM and a security guard, but no bag check.

Glad to see they stopped because at our trip over Thanksgiving they definitely had you walk through metal detectors at the garage entrance.

I carry, but never at Disney World. I shake my head when I see that people get in trouble for taking their firearms to the parks. I'm like seriously? You don't know the rules do you? They deserve what they get honestly...

They also have plain clothes security officers there watching. Always watching....LOL!!

are the parks doing bag checks like they used to?
Not the same way they used to. If you have a large battery (like for video camera) or metal sunglasses case or umbrella, carry it in front of you and just walk through the scanner. Done! If it beeps they’ll pull you aside and check your bag, but the large majority of people just walk in through without pausing.

It's the same security walk through that you do at the parks - walk straight through the scanner, hold your umbrella out in front of you if you have one, and if something causes the scanner to beep, they will ask you to step over to a table where a security guard will go through your bag like they used to do at the parks.

It started after Covid, and my guess is it won't be going away.

I sure hope it's not going away. It's 100 times more efficient and effective than guards manually going through backpacks and purses. It's so much nicer walking right through.

Agreed, but I was specifically referring to it being at Disney Springs, which used to have no security check at all.
