Girlfriend is heading down to WDW on Sunday with her milk-allergic toddler. Her plan had been to avoid all snacks and treats from counter service and vendors. I told her my DISers know a better way! That there is a way to gain access to a list of dairy free treats, and how to maneuver through meals. I know this "special diets" team exists - but I can't figure out how to contact them.

Anyone with experience on this one? I'd love to impart even more of my DISer knowledge on her. She's currently in awe! :-)

Just have her tell the person at the counter she has someone allergic to milk and they will send someone out to give them the options they have to offer.

We went 3 times with dd when she was anaphlactic to any dairy products or any dairy that touched her food. We had very little problems. I'd be happy to give you more info-you can PM me.
It can be done with a little planning and knowledge.
She can also contact Disney Dietry and they will email her a list of foods that are dairy free. Beware of the french fries in AK. DD ate them and we ended up rushing out of the park-thought we were going to have to call EMS. She was fine, but they are not dairy free.
Good Luck and feel free to message me.

Here's the official Disney website for special diet information:

She can also email SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com and tell them of her child's allergy. They will send her lists of counter service and snack locations where she can get allergy-safe foods for her toddler.

We are currently gluten-free, used to be casein (milk protein)-free AND gluten-free. We LOVE Disney because they are so accommodating. Disney sets the standard for all other food service when dealing with food allergies. Your friend will be amazed at how easy this will be!

They usually like a lot more notice, but they can possibly make some accommodations, especially if you have dining reservations. Request the form and get it back to them ASAP.

Our website, below, has lots of tips for allergen-free visits to Disney. Dairy is especially tricky, especially if physical contact is an issue. Now is a good time to be going, before the ice cream starts flowing like crazy.

We leave next Saturday for our next visit!!!

My son has food allergies and Disney is great. The Chefs are very accomodating.

The email address for Special Diets is SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com. This is also posted on the WDW website under Special Dietary Requests.

No need to avoid Counter Service locations. We've got long lists of food allergies including milk yet we eat CS meals. We plan ahead for which places carry safe foods and we ALWAYS inform them that we have allergies.

staceyhzoo, did you inform the manager of your daughter's allergies? The fries at Restaurantosaurus are supposed to be milk free as long as they're cooked separately from the rest of the food. Any CS location we've been to has had to either oven bake fries for us or they have a frier dedicated to the allergy chicken tenders (which are milk free) and french fries. I was informed last year by Special Diets that we might be able to get fries at Flame Tree but that we'd likely have to let them know and come back or wait a while for them to be prepared, or we might not be able to so check with the manager. Where did you eat? I just want to be sure that if we eat at the location we triple check the person we're ordering from that they understand allergies. I'm glad your daughter was ok in the end and I'm so sorry she (and you) had to go through that ordeal. How scary!!

ALWAYS let the person you're ordering from know about the allergy even if you've eaten at the place 100 times and do not complete your order without speaking with the CS location's manager (at resorts or Sunshine Seasons you actually speak with a chef which I prefer but everywhere else you get a manager who's been trained in how to deal with allergies and the importance of ensuring no cross contamination).

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

Thanks so much for the direction on this one, guys! I'm so used to frequenting the same boards over and over again, that sometimes I forget to open my eyes and look around at some of the other boards! Never even registered that there was a disABILITIES board - the fact that there is one is just another reason why I love the DIS.

Thanks again!
