Disney, Siemens sign pact
Disney, Siemens sign pact
The Walt Disney Company recently announced a 12-year strategic alliance with Siemens AG, a premier global technology and infrastructure company.

The agreement paves the way for the two companies to broaden their technological collaboration across several platforms.

"Embracing new technology is a key strategic priority at Disney, because it supports our commitment to creating an outstanding Guest experience," said Bob Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company.

As part of the agreement, Siemens also will appear as a presenting sponsor for several Disneyland® and Walt Disney World experiences, including the Spaceship Earth attraction and the IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth fireworks spectacular at Epcot®, and Innoventions exhibits at Epcot and Disneyland Park. In addition, the company's Sylvania lighting division will sponsor the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights holiday display at the Disney-MGM Studios and the classic Disney's Electrical Parade at Disney's California Adventure® Park.

Looks like SE gets an update, I hope they keep the ride as is but just update everything else

my husband used to work for them, gosh is my timing off. Maybe he can work for Siemens again someday...perks? ;)

This could be interesting news for the Disney I.T. departments. Wonder just how far they'll take the "partnership".

That's what I thought when I saw this. Disney isn't exactly in the IT business so if they could offload their reservation systems on Siemens they might view that as a good thing.

I though Disney's reservations systems were unique and homebrewed. I can oinly imagine the pain and suffering that would be involved in a switchover like that.

It's interesting that it indicated the Electric light parade would be sponsered since it was shut down for the fall with no explination.

True. But you can outsource a lot without replacing a system. Siemens does a lot of I.T. services outsourcing as well as produce its own software.

I work for Siemens Medical and I was thrilled to hear about this partnership! Siemens will be sponsoring Spaceship Earth at Epcot and the fireworks too. They sponsored the Osbornes Christmas light show as well. Lots of good will come out this partnership for both Siemens and Disney. Both companies are established worldwide and both can benefit from each other. Sorry to blab about Siemens here. I just really enjoy the company I work for.

I just heard from a friend that works for a Siemens company that they'll get a 12% discount on admission media.

That news was announced November 8, 2005. It's been discussed on this board: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=957043

Here's the the full press release from 11/08/05.

I would have preferred a US or British company.
And why is that?

Would you prefer if Nestlé, a Swiss company, stopped sponsoring The Land?

How about the various international companies that provide sponsorship at Epcot World Showcase countries?

What about US-based, multinational companies like GM?

Disney outsourced a thousand IT jobs last year:

See http://money.cnn.com/2005/05/13/news/fortune500/disney_plans.dj/

and http://www.thechannelinsider.com/article2/0,1895,1828350,00.asp

Disney's IT outsouring has nothing to do with the strategic alliance with Siemens.

Funny you say that... I had a prof in college that encouraged us to avoid Nestle products for Hershey, since Hershey was an American company. Odd, as he didn't take that stance on anything else. My guess is he was some kind of distant relation or went heavy into Hershey stock.

Siemens purchased Sylvania Lighting several years ago.
Sylvania has been a corporate contributor to Disney for years.
The Festval of Lights at MGM is sponsored by Sylvania.
Illuminations at EPCOT is now sponsored by Sylvania - "A Siemens Company".
I work for Siemens so I've been paying close attention.
We get 12% off any park passes. But need to buy in advance because it takes four weeks for processing. :woohoo:
