Disney should have either no discounts or discounts for all!!

I understand what you are saying, but I don't agree with it.

Disney uses pin codes as a way to entice people to make a trip. I didn't get one until I went to their web site, entered travel dates, and then saved it as a possbile trip. Then bingo! Got a pin.

But this doesn't happen for everyone. I have waited for 8 years to get a pin. I have done everything everyone else did, using 4 different e-mail addresses, clearing cookies, entering travel dates, saving itineraries, you name it. Then when they finally extend free dining we fall during the blackout dates. We planned this trip a year ago. We already have our MNSSHP party tickets and airline tickets, time approved to be off work and school. So there ya go, we're paying full price. We have every trip. I'm also one who has decided this is it for a while. We love Disney, but it is disheartening not to feel special enough to even get a pin once and a while, while others are getting them constantly. We'll have an amazing trip, but it will be a long time before we go again. Many other vacation destinations are offering great discounts to everyone :)

I agree with the OP, but disagree with some of the others...

My problem is with the PINs also... this just seems like playing the lottery. It is not fair that some people get a significant discount and others pay full price, all other things being equal.

I dont mind the general public discounts being blacked out... I understand why they are. Its fair to everyone. If you choose to go at a less busy time, you get the discount, no problem.

Its the fact that selective people are getting the discount anyway, based on nothing more than luck. Its infuriating.

Yikes, that is snarky. I thought Diser's were supposed to be a friendly bunch.:rolleyes1
Sorry if you feel it's snarky; I think whining is worse. And as I said, my point was that you only feel "left out" because of the DIS and you know about these PINs. You don't know about other discounts.

Kohl's, for example, sends out random post cards with 15, 20 or 30% off, depending on which card you get. Is it fair that the person next to me is paying 30% off retail and I'm only getting 15%? But I don't get annoyed because I don't know what the other person is paying. And if 15% off isn't enough for me, I don't buy.

People complain, but keep coming back to Disney, spending whatever they need to, and continue to complain. If you're spending your money anyway, why should Disney change what they're doing? If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. That's the only thing Disney will understand. As long as they keep making money, they'll keep doing what they're doing. In Disney's eyes, it's not broken, so why fix it?
Im guessing snkymom is someone who always gets pins.
Nope. I won't say never, because I just used one, but they're few and far between. They're often for things I can't use, like free dining (which I don't do whether a PIN or public - doesn't work for my family), or Kids free (I don't have any little ones anymore). And I never got one before I bought an AP last year.

But if I don't get a PIN for a time I want to go, I decide if it's worth it to me to pay what I have to pay (I do have AAA). If it is, I go. If it's not, I don't.

The fact that you get a different answer from every CM you speak to is in itself infuriating. Why don't they all have the same information in front of them? The last CM I spoke to was very nice. Told me my first mistake was booking online because you can almost always get a better deal with a CM. But alas, he could not offer me any way to save $$. :confused3
Now, that I agree with!

I used a Small World Travel agent and let her worry about my PINs. I actually don't get PINs either, yet do get about 40-50% off rack rates by using her services. Plus, one time I got that big discount and a free dining plan. It was the Poly, last November.

So, maybe change your booking strategy and use a TA. It's worth a try.

You're getting 40%-50% off your room when there are no discounts available?

I know TA's are a huge help, but even THEY cannot stack discounts at Disney. There's something off in this story.

You got a 40-50% room discount + FD last November? With the same reservation? :confused3

It isn't fair- it's business. Some get pins and discounts some don't. Just like any business, they are offering discounts to move things that are selling slower.

If I don't get a pin or discount, I will cancel my trip. Not because I'm angry at WDW, but because it won't be worth that much to me. Do I hope I get one? Heck yeah! If I don't I won't be whining that it's not fair.

Oh, just in case anyone's still wondering about "snykymom always gets the PIN codes" issue, I didn't get the one that went out on 7/13 for free dining without blackout dates.

Oh, I just now read the post above mine. I live in PA, not the UK and I got the free dining and cheaper room! I love my Small World agent, love her.

Who's your agent there because she will get thousands of calls after this post. Disney does NOT give discounted rooms with free dining unless you have a UK address. I have spoken to several managers at Disney and they all have agreed that this is against their policy.

I understand the frustration but another thing to keep in mind is Disney is pretty flexible in letting you change reservations as new deals come out. I looked at a deal Swan had and price was good but I had to pay in full now and it was fully nonrefundable! The PINs wouldn't matter as much if you weren't able to book and then read the boards daily learning tricks to get a PIN.

I also agree with earlier poster who said PINs are usually then part of general public deal later. Just a month ago people were begging for free dining to be extended past 10/2.

When it rains... blah blah...

I got 3 FD PINs on Tuesday! After calling numerous times and being told I had nothing.

That's a very good point. I was very surprised when I first learned that Disney would allow you to apply a discount later to an already existing reservation. I don't know of many other places that do that. If I book a cruise at one price point, it doesn't matter if the cabins then go on sale; I'm locked into the price I booked. At Disney, it's a different story. A nice one, IMO. (Also the fact that they give you current gate price on old/discounted tickets to upgrade; the fact that they let you upgrade even a fully used ticket; etc.)
