Disney-scrolling as a comfort--am I abnormal?

I will straight up put on livestreams of people walking through the park in the background as I do another activity. My husband actually likes these too.

And one of my friends who isn't even into Disney admitted that she listens to the DFB videos on youtube because she finds them super relaxing!

My husband and I both grew up with hobbies/obsessions that were really looked down on when we were kids (both heavy gamers, love comic books, anime obsessed, etc.) so we give each other a lot of grace in that respect. Hobbies and interests are meant to make us feel happy and relax, not be productive or side hustle or whatever.

Let me make sure I have This straight. You suffer from depression and anxiety and you have found something that makes your days a little more bearable and brings you some joy or comfort correct? It’s something that doesn’t hurt anybody else. It’s something that doesn’t hurt yourself. Why wouldn’t they be happy for you? As someone who suffers with both depression and anxiety any small victory is a victory. I’m happy that you’re taking time to do something that brings you joy every day of your life. Keep disney scrolling you deserve whatever makes you smile.

I would also consider myself obsessed with Disney. I don't watch too many of the bloggers/YouTube videos, but follow the message boards, read a lot of articles, and buy and/or read many books about WDW.

Thank you all so, so much. I feel a million times better, and I wish I could hug everyone here. I end up feeling so isolated sometimes. I'll definitely check out the 4K WDW videos and Resorts TV.
Love to all. I just needed to feel connected to others who share my love.
And yes, I'm hopeful that the new changes will bring back some of the traditional Disney magic.
xoxo

I find the 4K WDW videos cheer me more when I don't use them as background.

I prefer starting one and watching it closely. That way, it feels more like I'm right there walking about with the person recording.

I watch resort tours when feeling Disney-homesick and the park ones when I want to feel as though I'm headed there for fun.

Maybe my method will work for you, OP. Depression is a mean condition. I find Disney a good way to lift myself a bit out of the pity pit when I'm wallowing. :grouphug:

Anyone else follow Disney for "happy place" vibes, even when you're not getting ready for a trip?
Absolutely!! Coming here to the DIS is a comforting routine for me that I use a lot. Be yourself, and don't let them dictate your happy!

I’m not Disney obsessed, but I’m definitely addicted to vacation planning. I usually have at least a couple in the works, although I probably only actually go on half of them. I compile websites, follow TripAdvisor forums, request free travel planners, get library books, watch videos, and of course make spreadsheets. I even do it for work trips, if I know I’ll have time to explore. It’s a fun hobby, and well worth the weirdness to my family for our extremely well-planned vacations!:thumbsup2

No shaming here. We understand, and approve.
I joined the DIS long ago, strictly to ask questions about an upcoming trip. :scratchin
I'm still here. If I'm feeling down about something, I read a few Trip Reports, or browse the reviews. Almost always puts a smile on my face, and sometimes brings a few happy tears.
As some of the others have said - the DIS isn't just an infomation dump -- it's a family.
There are people here I care about, even if they don't know me from Queen Victoria. There are people who can always make me smile, even when my world is black and bleak.

And Dis-scrolling (I like that term) is FAR cheaper and better for you (and your family) than alcohol, drugs, or any other "self-prescribed medication" for the blues. So you just keep right on reading, watching, enjoying... :grouphug:

You are asking the wrong group of people to get an unbiased opinion, but as someone who does the same thing, I definitely think you're a-okay :)

Just tell him not to 'yuck' your 'yum'.

I'm completely obsessed! I'm not gonna even say how much time I spend 😂 I love planning our trips and we just got done with one and I'm already planning the next one for 2024 soooooo don't feel ashamed at all! I will go through phases. Eventually I will get back to my "normal mode" but right now.....Disney Freak :cheer2:

Hi Dis fam,
Recently my husband and daughter (15) were making fun of me for being "obsessed" with reading about WDW and watching videos from bloggers like Nate (Paging Mr Morrow). My husband was half-joking but it made me feel ashamed. We don't get to go often--once a year if we're lucky--but I love being on DisBoards or reading articles/blogs. It makes me feel calm and hopeful. I have a lot of problems with depression and anxiety, and that's gotten a lot worse with the pandemic followed by menopause. I take care of my family, try to help my aging folks from a distance, work full-time...I feel like if I spend an hour or so a day Disney-scrolling, that's nothing terrible. Now I'm feeling embarrassed. Please tell me your thoughts. Anyone else follow Disney for "happy place" vibes, even when you're not getting ready for a trip?
Ursula J: If you are abnormal, so am I, LOL.
I love reading about WDW and Universal on the various threads. It's my happy place too:)

We pretty much only watch disney vlogs... lol

When Im home alone working I like to watch the live vloggers. It's nice because I dont feel like im missing anything if i have to turn it down or I get busy (where if im watching an episode of mr morrow i will have to rewatch to see what i missed). Its nice to not be paying much attention and then catch a bit of music or something that gives me a happy memory and i just start smiling.

Youre not weird, its just your happy place and we're lucky that we can watch when we're not able to be there!

I love to consume anything Disney. I read and watch any content I can get my hands on. I love Mr. Morrow, Allears.net, DFB and Mammoth Club @mollymcawesome to mention a few.
