Disney Riviera Resort

I feel like if that's the case they're gonna outpace what they can sell. I don't know how much of the poly has sold, but there's so many more units they have to sell off at copper creek and now riviera? Will be really interesting (nevermind the aulani points still sitting there)

Poly will be sold out before the end of 2017. That gives them about 18 months to exclusively sell Copper Creek before they start pre-sales of Riviera.

Copper Creek has 184 rooms and cabins representing 3.3 million points. That's fewer points than Poly. Poly has sold about 1.7 million points over the last 12 months. If Copper Creek were to equal that pace, it could be pretty close to sold out before Riviera comes on line. Of course that will be a major challenge. An overlap of 6-12 months is more likely, but not terribly unusual. Offering buyers choices isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Disney probably did jump the gun on Riviera by about 6 months, but I have a feeling Star Wars is driving that. They need the gondola system operational before Star Wars land opens in fall 2019. And Riviera is a key station on that line.

I think Star Wars will help sell Riviera points so it's not necessarily a bad thing. DVC has had worse overlaps in the past. If memory serves, back in 2008/2009 they were selling at least 4 resorts simultaneously (Saratoga, Animal Kingdom, Bay Lake, Grand Cal.)

Wilderness?

$7.33?

No thanks...that's ballsy...there has been a dvc there for 15 years.

That's not "maintenance" that's adding a yearly additional cost per point to finance the retrofit.

That's class action territory

Yep. Word is that it may be property tax and everyone else's may follow. But they're by far the highest on campus.

Property tax?

What happened...are the pols in Florida begging for money because they have supported abusive/pig policies for 40 years

Awwww...poor babies

The only reason I hold onto Saratoga is cause I paid cash, they were cheap, and the rack rates are a royal screwjob...

Wait...my bad...that's 3

The problem is that those points now aren't "prime" points...

They want to be able to add to the monorail line but too much is going on.

And does anyone still doubt that Bon bini tower is gonna be full cost/nightly charge now?

Nope...deluxe prices on a moderate plot.

I'm not really getting how the location is moderate, just because the neighbors are in moderates---- we tear down old run down shacks on the beach and build mansions--- their neighbors are still in shacks----- It doesn't change the view and being able to walk out of your home and onto the beach.......

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but it's Disney---- hitting "equal" to their deluxes makes it deluxe....

Not that I'm on a waiting list to buy or anything.... but I will definitely 7 month it at least once.

It depends on what they build. My belief is that they will build bay lake tower and tell people to share the caribbean food court.

And that's not good enough. It doesn't offer the ambience, quality of design, or amenities you get at beach club, boardwalk, poly, etc...

If they build bigger/better...then that opinion can be voided.

Ok-- we agree. If they build what was rumored about creating a boardwalk type situation around whatever lake is at CBR-- then both properties can climb the ladder..... and it wouldn't crush the existing boardwalk with new pseudo deluxe guests.....

I remember that...but that's way off the grid right now...

Nothing we've heard or seen indicated they'll invest the dollars or the manpower necessary to run a service area that they seem to not really care about like boardwalk.

Different idea entirely.

My thought is a pseudo moderate that looks like a Marriott that they'll try to sell based on the non-ac cable
Cars to Jedi academy and food and wine.

Transportation at WL was an issue a couple weeks ago. Not only did we share with Contemporary, but also with The Fort for Epcot and MK. Only the early morning busses did not share- once you hit 9 am you were sharing. Plus, they were running about every 45-50 mins both at WL and the parks- except for MK. Sat at Epcot and watched 3 SSR busses come and go before ONE WL bus arrived. PLUS, we saw very bad guest behavior- making out on the bus (and then some), a literal coming to blows fight between 2 women, incredibly scantily clad girls making not so veiled innuendos between the carrots they were eating and some body parts... I have never seen it as bad as that, and I attribute some of it to the less frequent/more packed busses. Not a very "deluxe" feel to be sure.

Unless they have more reliable dedicated busses AND the gondolas work as they are being hyped to, it will not warrant the cost they are hoping for as a deluxe. Also a reason we won't even contemplate buying CCR right now- Disney is focusing more on profit than "magic". They are letting the small details go. If DRR is in the same boat, I don't think that bodes well.

ETA: @Roxyfire I am typically like you, and know the busses can take time. I am usually patient, but this last trip put me over the edge. It was SO much worse.

I'll tell ya, I can't stand the bad behavior either. But I suspect no matter where you stay, there's the chance people will have more money than class. We tend to be a little more glued to our phones so even if something like that did happen, I think I'd be kinda oblivious unless they were very loud.

As an aside, our early morning buses (late May/early June) did share with other resorts but there was no one at those stops to pick up so we moved on. I was quite nervous about Epcot as that one really did cut it close. But we got up to Garden Grill right on time anyway. Between CSR and WL, Epcot has been a weird pain point. I dunno if that's just our bad luck park or they have worse transportation to/from Epcot.

Seems it depends on the day, but the only one WL transportation seems to have down is MK! They really need to do something about it IMHO. It should not take an hour to get on a bus and stop at another resort before you ever head to the park. The gondolas may mitigate that for DRR, but I wonder how much will be shared with the other resorts, resulting in higher traffic and similar issues? Might be at the station as opposed to in the individual cars, but still could be issues. I guess time will tell.

Some quick service is a given for Riviera but we'll have to wait and see how elaborate it proves to be. On the low end, something like Goods to Go or Paddock Grill offering mostly fried foods near the pool. Better would be a multipurpose facility like the newly-renovated dining at Vero. Geyser Point at WL is similar with casual table service dining plus a "to-go" window outside.

Meanwhile the whole Centertown complex is being renovated at CBR so some upgrades there seem likely. It's possible that they build a "bare minimum" QS location at Riviera and refer guests to Centertown for more. It wouldn't be all that different than dining at BW/BC where a 5 minute walk opens up many more options.

Kidani is the one that raises some concern. It's a larger resort than Riviera, yet Sanaa only recently started offering 3 meals/day and there's really no QS location (unless you count the limited menu--and hours--at the pool bar.) However Kidani is nearly 10 years old and I think WDW has shown changes to the way it structures resort dining since then.

Any referral to caribbean is going to make large segments of the several hundred thousands of established dvc contract owners go running to the hills to hide...

...and that's no small task because the closest hills are in Georgia!

Had an interesting phone call with a CM this morning- it was a follow up to my complaints about our recent trip (in large part the bus issues I referenced previously). I never mentioned DRR at all, yet the CM was "talking up" how the gondolas were going to be a new solution to transportation issues and were coming soon... I think I just caught a glimpse into their upcoming marketing campaign.
