Disney Rides that never made it

I think the biggest one of these was Beastly Kingdom, which was supposed to be the biggest land in Animal Kingdom. It was supposed to be behind the area what we know as Camp Minnie-Mickey. They were supposed to have Fantasia boat rides and some other really cool stuff related to mythical creatures. I'm so sad it wasn't ever built. :sad2:

I've read that before Mission:Space, there was suppose to be Journeys into Space. I kind of liked the idea better because you wouldn't throw up on it.

There were suppoded to be three other hotels on the monorail loop, the grand floridian not even planned to be one of them. The Asian, Persian, and Venetian hotels is what they were called. The Asian was proposed to go where the GF is today, which is why for years the land the GF is built on was a square chunk of cleared land jutting into Seven Seas Lagoon. The Venetian, also called the Mediterranean, was supposed to be between the Contemporary and TTC, in that wooded no mans land. At one point, something to check and see if the ground was stable enough to support the hotels foundation was put it, and it disappeared through the ground never to be seen again. So nothing can be beuilt there because the swampy land can't support it. The last, called the Persian, was going to change the look of the monorail loop. To give you an idea, the monorail would stop in Tomorrowland, and then jut out to east (to the right of MK if you didn't already know) and stop at the Persian, which would have been north of the Contemporary on the shores of Bay Lake. The monorail would have countinued on to the Contemporary and back to it's normal route. The reason why this, and ultimately the other hotels weren't built, is because of the energy crisis in the 70's, which crippled the tourism industry, thus making it pointless and money losing to add more rooms.

Hope I didn't bore you to death, but that's my contribution to this thread, I'm sure I'll have others

Yeah Thanks! I always enjoy reading about the old rides and the what-could've-beens of Walt Disney World:)

I love this site! I wish they could have built Beastly Kingdom and the Bald Mountain ride. Those would have been sick.

Actually Beastly Kingdom would have been where camp minnie mickey is, it was actually just a temporary thing until they got money.

And the Venetian would have been set up like the POFQ but instead of sidewalks waterways.

Villian Mountain would've been super creepy (yet awesome) for me, but my dad would've loved it. He loves all the villians and whatnot

I love to hear about what could have been, almost as much as I like remembering what was at Disney. I had heard about the three hotels in and around the monorail area, but not in as much detail - thanks umichigan! Very informative!

I like that site, but it kinda makes me sad...seeing all of these amazing concepts for attractions...but they never got to see daylight.

I was researching more on the Beastly Kingdom the other day and came across a fact that this dragon statue:

was built to signify that the Kingdom was going to be built, but then the budgets cuts and other things led to Camp Minnie-Mickey being built as a place holder. CMM was temporary at park opening, but is now permanent because the Imagineers have the Yeti (which doesn't fully work :sad2: ), that they say is the "imaginary" part of the park. A lot of the Imgineers that worked on AK actually went to Island of Adventure which is why they have a Dragon ride and a Unicorn ride:thumbsup2

Used to have a unicorn ride that is....now it's a hippogriff (love that name)
I feel that they need to build Beastly Kingdom and change the tacky Discovery Island costumes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It would be awesome.
