Hello!

I have some Disney dollars on my Visa I'd like to redeem for my upcoming vacation. How does the process of redeeming them work? Will they be added as a credit to my card? Or will they be sending me something in the mail (like a gift card)?

I'm just wondering how far in advance before my trip I need to redeem them (i.e. if it's something they send in the mail I'll need to do it well before my trip begins).

Thanks for any help!!

They send you a gift card in the mail. You have the option of paying for faster shipping but they arrive fairly quickly with the free shipping option, IMHO. We have an upcoming trip planned and I sent for mine about a month ago. I knew I wouldn't be using my card and/or accumulating any more points before our trip.

Congratulations on finishing your Master's! Enjoy your trip!!

all Disney rewards now come to me;)

They need an evil loling icon

The card they send you is plastic like a gift card....I think they call it a rewards redemption card. It is a reloadable card that can be used over and over (until the expiration date printed on that card) which is usually December of the year after you first order it. That means if you order one now it can be reloaded and reused until the end of December 2015 (although I think any points loaded this year have to be used this year or they're lost). I usually order mine months ahead of my trip so I know I have it on hand with the minimum amount of points required (I think 10) then during my trip I transfer all the points I need to the card and go down to the lobby and pay off my room charges with it. I hope this helps and didn't just confuse you more :)

You can also get the card in DTD and in Disneyland. They each have a redemption center where you tell them how many points you want on the card. They then issue the card there.

You mentioned that any points loaded this year have to be used this year - does this mean that if I load my card in 2014 (either this month or next) I have to use them before the end of 2014? I'm wondering because my trip is in January of 2015.

I don't think so. Unless you have points that happen to expire Dec of 2014. I think everything on the card would expire Dec 2015.

There is a minimum of points you must put on the card to order it (either 10 or 20). I'd do it soon, personally, for a Jan trip.

But, you can keep accruing (though the holidays) and the call and transfer the rest of your points (I think you may be able to do it online now, too).

Go online to your account and request a redemption card. You will have to load it with $10 and they will mail it to you. The date it expires will be on the card. Should be at least a year. You can transfer the rest of your points onto the card once you receive it. It only takes a few seconds:)

If you order the reward card now it will expire in December of 2015. Usually I order my card with the minimum amount of $20.00, then transfer the balance right before we leave. You will need to use anything you transfer to it by 12/15 or you will lose it.

The rewards card can be used all over disney property, for meals, purchases, to pay off room charges. Even the Lego store in DTD takes it so I am sure other DTD stores do as well.

Thank you ALL! This was so helpful. One last question - are you able to use the card for tips for meals?

The card works just like a Disney GC. You can use it anywhere that you can use your magic band for payment, and that includes paying the tips at TS restaurants.

The bolded part is incorrect. The rewards dollars do not expire until the card expires.

If you're redeeming for the very first time, you have to load it with at least $20. After that, you can transfer as little as $10 at a time or even order a second card with just $10 loaded on it.

Thank you for the correction...after I went back and looked at my cards I realized I was wrong on that point and was coming back to edit. I knew I was about to lose a few points on a card ...it's because the card itself is expiring :)

You can purchase a Disney GC on disneystore .com and you can save those points that way. Make sure that it is a Disney GC and not a Disney Store GC. The Disney GC will not have an expiration date. The smallest value that you can load on a card is $25, so you would have to use another form of payment to make up the difference if you're short a few rewards dollars.

In the back of my mind I knew that but really didn't give it much though since it's only a few dollars. If I don't do any online shopping between now and the end of the year I will for sure transfer over more points and just get a gift card. THANKS! :)

This is a good suggestion. I'll have to try to remember this in future. (My brain is at the "try to remember" age now). :(

A Disney CM suggested that we covert our rewards card, which has an expiration date and is NOT a gift card technically, to a Disney gift card, which does not expire.

I'm not a CM and have not read the rules for each card, just passing along what we were told. Might be worth you researching.

My BFF did this transferred her soon to expire rewards card money to a Disney gift card that never expires.
