Disney Reward Dollars

DW and I are charter members of the Chase Disney Visa. However, since we no longer use CC for anything, we don't build up reward dollars. Now, here's what I'm thinking...

Last year I rented a DSLR lens from a local store for a weekend. I picked up the lens on Friday and returned on Monday. They asked for a deposit and I gave them my debit card. They "charged" the debit card $2000+ (I was able to see the charge on my online statement)! When I returned the lens Monday, I paid the $50 fee for the rental, and after a couple days got a credit back for the $2000.

So what I'm wondering (ethics as well as if it will work)... if I time it right and rent the lens the day before my CC monthly statement "closes", and return it a couple days later, do I get the reward dollars on the full amount?

So the statement would look something like:
8/29: -$2000
8/30: Paper statement sent (showing reward dollars too)
9/3: +$2000

Thoughts?

I don't think it will work in the end. You might get the rewards, but when the credit shows up they will most likely deduct the rewards. You might get the rewards, but you will have a negative balance when the credit for the deductible is posted.

You may want to see if there is anything in the fine print regarding negative rewards balances.

As far as ethics - it's your conscience. I don't mean this to be positive or negative. It's your call as to what you do.
