On my list. Finally got around to the first episode - it's pretty good, though I was a little mad at first. I don't love every story beat, but it is extremely well-done.

Ratings are not great, has Marvel lost its mojo?
To be honest, this is kind of what I was expecting. The Netflix seasons got rave reviews, but honestly when I watched them I felt they were pretty slow paced and boring for a lot of the run time. They had moments to keep you invested and the final third were usually fairly engaging, but the seasons as a whole were pretty boring to me. I think the fact that they were released at once so people could binge them and get the next episode and tot eh finale and big story moments are what made those shows successful. Felt if they had been released weekly they would have been criticized for being slow. So, four episodes in, and is it just me or is it a little...boring?

Yea I do like that Disney has been starting to try some alterations on the model and doing a bit of a hybrid of the two. Like Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man releasing 2 or 3 episodes a week and Andor season 2 doing an arc each week for 4 weeks. This way we get the story faster but it's still spread out some to keep up discussion and speculation as well. This is great for the slower paced shows so they don't feel the need to rush the story but it isn't drawn out. More episodic stuff that has stories each episode like Agatha work pretty well for weekly but the more dramatic shows with longer run times can feel a bit slow and like there isn't much progression each week. I hope they look towards doing more hybrid releases like these as it gives a bit of a best of both worlds between binging format and weekly releases. This is true. One issue that a lot of streaming shows have is that they don't seem to consider whether the show will drop all at once or be week-to-week. Personally, I like the week-to-week model, but you have to adjust your pacing accordingly. It's a different feel than the "Long Movie" style of something like Stranger Things. You have shows that want to do that "one off" episode that is all in the mind (Moon Knight) or flashback episodes (Acolyte), and that works better when it is a binge, but not so much if it is not. Stranger Things has done episodes liek that too, but they aren't as harmful to the narrative since they drop all at once. It's a real issue with streaming shows across the board.
I don't think I'm giving away any big spoilers, but it does kind of bother me that the plot has the Mayor of New York City exercising powers that he doesn't have. Including the power to commute sentences. That's the power of the Governor.
Well, I think they were making some comments on abuse of power...but I won't get into it.
I will say that I felt that the finale especially was more violent than it needed to me. I mean, I can roll with that - I like some very violent movies, but some of this was just gratuitous with no real purpose. I didn't love that. I also hate that they left so much up in the air for a Season 2. The way Streaming shows go, we should see that in three or four years. Ugh.
Well yeah. The whole thing about just blatant illegal stuff going on (such as assassinations) wasn't quite what I was thinking of. Police conducting extrajudicial killing is something that most people recognize. Using public office to enrich private business interest is clearly illegal. Duh.
But what I was getting at was just simple stuff making it look like the Mayor of New York City oversees state prisons and can commute sentences handed out by state courts. And there are some little things that they got wrong, like talking about taking something to the New York Supreme Court. As we've learned from recent news, the New York Supreme Court is the equivalent of most states' superior courts.
They have said that season 2 will premiere in March next year. The way Streaming shows go, we should see that in three or four years. Ugh.
