Disney return?

How have people had such good luck returning/ exchanging things with WDW after MONTHS of having the item? My husband bought me the D&B purse for xmas and we decided to return it and I can't because the tag is not on it! We opened it, took the tag off, saw it was too big for my stuff, and now I can't return it?!
