Disney Resort or Off-Premise Condo?

This is my first time posting on this message board. I read most of the archives yesterday to see if anything was on point but could not find anything.

I live in Florida but have not been to Disney World in more than 12 years.

The last time I stayed there I stayed on property at the Tree Top Villas (I think that was their name). It was very convenient to be on property but the villa was very small.

I am now a grandma and want to treat my daughter and her husband and the baby to a trip to DW. Since the baby is one year old, we primarily want to bond see a few theme parks and hang around the pool.

I have read several boards and some people who are traveling with a large crowd prefer to stay off premise in the condos or interval time rentals. I have not made up my mind yet and before I do I need to know if there is a large villa type accomodation at Disney. Which resort has the best pool/"beach" area. In other words where can we stay and sit around the resort most of the time without getting in one another's way.

I have not budgeted for this visit because I need to know what would suit my needs. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The Beach Club Villas and the WIlderness Lodge Villas may fit your needs well. The Beach Club Villas are allowed use of a really fun pool area -- Stormalong Bay.

You might try doing a search on these boards. Or try Deb's site at www.wdwig.com.

Consider off site only if you'll have a car IMHO. The other consideration is related to 'bang for the buck' off site
alternatives vs. on site, I can personally recommend Marriott Cypress Harbor off site (excellent pool area). So I think car and budget are the 2 biggest influences on your decision. More intangible is the whole WDW vacation 'feel' factor staying on site,
as people put varying degrees of importance on this.

Are you using your Florida Residence reduced rate?

I was looking at the Contemporary because of it proximity to the Magic Kingdom. With a one year old and a stroller that would probably be the best bet.

I am now thinking of spending a few days in Disney and then going to the Beach for another few days. Anyone been to the resort in Vero Beach?

This is so last minute. I hope I can get this done soon.

Yes. Staying at CBR $298 incl all taxes for three nights under the FL res rate. July 2,3,4.

I think either can work for your family, but onsite will probably be easier if you decide to split up at at all.

I would like to suggest getting 2 rooms, depending on your budget, if you stay on site (and don't go for one of the villas). It's usually cheaper to go that route than to stay at one of the DVC resorts, and I think it will help you stay sane! :) I wouldn't want to share a room with a 1 year old if I didn't have to!

Good luck with your plans. :)

I would say it depends on your budget, The Beach Club Villas get my vote if money is not an object. You may be able to use the Florida resident rate here as well - has anyone heard reports of the new code working at home away from home resorts? It will probably give you a significant discount.

I am partial to staying on site even if it does cost more.

Others might have better advice on off site options.
