I wasn't sure if this was the correct place to ask this, but if we are planning on going to Disney Jan 5-14 2016 and we booked now would we be able to get the discounts that may come out in October?

There is limited availability. You'd need to call to have it applied. If your room type and resort is available they can apply it. If it's not, you could change rooms.

Having it booked now doesn't guarantee you'll be able to add it on.
 
I was told today when I booked March at rack rates that I would be able to get discounts that come out later this Fall for 2016 just need to call back in.

That only works if there is availability in your category of rooms for that resort. I have a RO reserved at a resort & there are no preferred rooms left for the AP discount next month so I either keep the rack rate or move to a different category but I want to stay preferred so I'm stuck. I've been calling every few days In hopes that someone cancels but so far no luck & I started calling the day the discounts were released!
 

Not advertising.... but this is a great reason to use a Travel Agent. I NEVER, EVERY use a travel agent for anywhere, except Disney. I give them my resort, dates, etc, and they give me the exact same price I would pay if I booked via Disney (the TA get paid by disney), then when a discount comes out, the TA does the work and gets it applied. I typically have already discussed what kind of changes I would be willing to make if my plans don't have any rooms available... ie, upgrade, more to a different hotel, etc. That way I just wait until later in the day for an email telling me if I got it, and what the price difference is. Most Disney TA's do this, and I know that there is a TA that is very closely associated with this website (that I have used)... but In'm not going to push one over another.

I do hear horror stories of people siting on hold for hours!!!! to get a discount applied to their reservation. Yuk!
 
Keep in mind the Disney phone system will be "over run" on the day a discount is annouced for just the reason highlighted in this thread. It could be a long wait........so prepare accordingly :bored:

Sorry...don't agree. For this trip (my 28th) we decided to use a very well known Disney travel agency (name to remain withheld) to watch for discounts and get them applied since we were out of the country for quite a while on vacation and wouldn't be in a position to watch for the codes ourselves. Long story short- I got home, got online, and noticed AP rates had come out while we were gone. I had to call them and ask them to get on the phone and make the changes since they didn't do it while we were away. Luckily, room category still had availability so it worked out. Then, a couple of weeks later had to tweak something else- and it took them 72 hours to get back to me. The room categories for a given discount don't last forever- so at that point I called Disney, and fortunately the room type was available for the discount we wanted, so I rebooked the reservation so I had access and control- and had the TA cancel the one they had made. Bottom line is if you want something done right- do it yourself. I will never use a TA ever again after this experience. I had to do all the work anyways, so what was the point.

I was told the same thing by a CM when I booked our December 2015 vacation in 2014 and I have yet to get a discount because of a lack of availability. I did book it really early as the trip is a gift to our kids and their families and I wanted to be sure to get exactly what I wanted. So if you are not willing to have to swallow paying rack rate I would wait to book or book it and take your chances. It does seem as if there are fewer and fewer discounts becoming available for the WDW resorts...they have also streamlined the Military discounts they used to give.

What reservations qualify for online modification? I have a current reservation and there is no modify option. It says to modify the reservation I would have to call in.????

I have had bad travel agent experiences also and I don't trust other people to be as on top of things as I would be.
 
After reading these I'm confused, is it better to book and have the promo applied or wait until the promo is announced then book? Thinking May 2016 dates.

I waited and got what I wanted, but that isn't always the case. If you are set on a certain room at a certain resort then I would say pre-book just so things don't get booked out. If you don't care and are flexible then wait.

Your dates are prime dates for the Disney Marathon. There might not be that much vacancy. And if you are running the marathon or half, you might be able to get a discounted room for your stay.

We ended up going with just the room discount. I am not convinced the meal plan is worth it considering we are doing universal two days and Cape Canaveral one day.
