:guilty: Can anyone help advise us - we are thinking of emplying one of the Disney resort babysitters to sit with our 3 and 5 year old for one night (probably about 6pm to 11pm - depending on buses) so that we can go out for a meal on our own to celebrate our anniversary. We are at the AKL from 28th July to 11th Aug 2007.

Has anyone used this service and what was it like?

A little wary of leaving kids like this but as it's Disney, it seems it would be a good service and reliable. Our two are pretty good at being left, even with those they don't know so well, but not sure.

All help greatfully received.:guilty:

There aren't any "Disney" babysitters who will come to your room as far as I know Dossie.

There are two options that I can think of that could help you though (there may be others I haven't thought of!)

You can hire a (non Disney employed) babysitter who will come to your hotel room (Disney or otherwise!) and take care of your little ones. I've not done this myself but others have said they found the service good. I think I have heard of the names Kids Nite Out and Fairy Godmothers if you try a search for those.

Or

You can use one of the Disney owned and run Disney kids clubs, based at the Disney hotels where you drop off your children at an agreed time and pick them up later. My DDs have done this a few times and they (and I) recommend this very highly! Lots of fun for them. The only snag I can see is that your 3 year old may not be old enough but I will go and see if I can find the age ranges for you :)

Ahhhh rats, sorry :(

It's for children of 4 and up - my DDs went to the Kids' Club at AKL (while DH and I ate at Jiko so it was very convenient).

Simbas Cubhouse - For parents who want to have a nice quiet dinner alone, Animal Kingdom Lodge offers Simbas Cubhouse. Open from 4:30pm to 12:00am daily, the Cubhouse accepts children from 4 to 12 years old. All children must be potty trained.

The cost is $8 per hour, per child and includes a snack, and a meal. Meals consist of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, French fries, potato chips, fresh fruit, apple juice, orange juice and white or chocolate milk.

Activities range from various toys, three Play Station video game consoles, and DVD movies. At 9pm, a craft activity is offered which consists of making animal masks and puppets. At 10pm, mats are laid out, lights are dimmed and a movie is put on for the kids.

Children with special needs can use the club house as long as they are able to go to the bathroom and feed themselves unassisted. They will accept older special needs children on a case by case basis.

As with all other supervised kids clubs, adults are issued a pager when children are dropped off. This is used to advise parents of any problems that may arise.

Also please note I copy and pasted this from wdwinfo.com but I think the price is more than $8 per hour so this could be out of date.

You may find the disney for famillies board better for a response from families who may have used one. I know of the Fairy Godmothers who come are older ladies to care for your child. You can request male or female too if you have a preference. But I do know there is a comapny who sit in your room for you. The Kids clubs are for 4-12 year olds only.

Love Louise xx

Thanks guys

You are all so friendly and helpful on here.

Really pleased I discovered this site!!

I have never felt comfortable to leave my children with anyone whilst on Holiday, I know I am over protective but I would not enjoy my meal thinking if the children are ok or not. I am sure the Disney clubs on site are ok (again never used them myself, still worried even with a Disney club!) My main reasons would be leaving the children with someone that I did not know and in another country. What a worrier I am!! :confused3

Midnight Belle

That's exactly our concern - hence the :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

We're off to DLP with a group of 12 and our Anniversary is while we are there too. The other 2 couples have said they'll watch our kids while we have time to ourselves but it doesn't feel right even though these 2 women both work with children as their career. We used grandparents while we were in WDW last time.

Its entirely up to the individual person of course, but if you take the position that leaving your children with anyone who is not family, that does not preclude any harm coming to them.

From my personal experiance, many of the cases that come forward of abuse are actually carried out by members of the extended family.

At least I know that the babysitting service we use is fully licenced by the State of Florida.

But as I have said, its up to the individual family. At least you care enough to worry. I am aware of many families who leave the elder (12-14 year old) sibling in charge for a fortnight whilst the parents go off to enjoy themselves on holiday without the children. It unfortunatly happens a lot!
