From WorstPreviews.com:
20th Century Fox is already shipping two different types of DVDs and Blu-ray discs, a "premium" version for purchase and a bare-bones version for rental. Which mean that if you buy a DVD, it will contain the film and all the bonus material. But if you rent it, you will get the movie and nothing else.
Now, AfterDawn is reporting that Disney is looking to do the same thing. Starting in June with "Morning Light," "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Jonas Brothers: The Concert Experience," the studio will offer two different versions.
The only difference between what Disney is planning and what 20th Century Fox has been doing is that Disney will offer the rental versions at a lower price point, whereas Fox offers both versions at the same price. Fox also controls what rental or retail outlets can buy, however Disney gives all companies the option to buy what they please.
The site is adding that even though the idea of two different versions may seem profitable, Fox has been having issues with the concept and is even considering getting rid of the bare-bones DVDs/Blu-rays.
