(AP) — Walt Disney World is raising the ticket prices for its theme parks.

Disney last raised its admission prices in August 2008.

The Orlando Sentinel reported Friday that the base price of a one-day, one-park adult ticket will increase from $75 to $79. The same ticket for a child between the ages of 3 and 9 will go from $63 to $68. Prices for the resort's multiday ticket packages also will rise. The new prices will go into effect Sunday.

The ticket increases come a day after the Walt Disney Co. announced its third-quarter profit dropped 26 percent, as slower DVD sales pushed its movie studio into the red.

I know it sucks to pay higher prices, but don't they raise them every year? It's not really a surprise.

Personally I think they are crazy, if it weren't for the special offers...free dining and a few other gimmicks people would not be going as often. Resort occupancy is down in Orlando because people are having a harder and harder time just living much less taking a vacation. I personally think they could have held off for a year.
Disney gets greedier and greedier each year, the other theme parks in Orlando have great offers from time to time....go one day the 2nd day is free etc. And given the fact that Disney really is not adding to their rides or making things a little more exciting people will start chosing other things to do in Orlando. JMO.
But then on the other hand, I was pricing lift tickets for a ski trip this winter and at the resort I was looking at they were $91.00 a day, and believe me that was not Aspen or Vail....so Disney is a value considering you get anywhere from 9-12 hours a day of entertainment where skiing I cannot ski from rope drop til dusk.

I don't have a huge problem with slightly higher prices. They have, afterall, been running some pretty good sales (Free Dining) on resorts and such.

Around here, the local places aren't reducing their prices at all. But more than one is offering free bounceback admission of some sort. If they can get people to come back with free admission, it results in additional revenue in $ spent on food, beverages, and souvenirs.

Same here. ;)

We are not really affected by the price increase this trip because we have the tickets on our Sept. package.....
but we will be there for my son's 4th birthday and we were planning on getting the gift card.....will he get an extra $5??

A very small "benefit" of the ticket price increase? :)

If they'd put more worthwhile stuff out on DVD, then we'd have something to buy...

Also, if they'd have more clothing options for both adults and large size adults in addition to the large children's and misses selections.

Has anyone done the math with the multi-day pass prices, and figured out what the average price increase was, for this year?

Disney is just about the best there is in terms of understanding their customer-base and pricing things exactly the way they should to serve the best long-term interests of their owners. While all us consumers would love to pay as little as we can and get in return as much as we can, the reality is that our demand fosters price changes, such as the one that Disney just implemented.

If you can to forestall the price increase next year get the non expiring tickets. I got them before last year's increase and they will hold me for the next 3 to 4 years. I have 12 days to spend at the park left. Who knows where I will be after that!

At some point they will have to reach a saturation point because there is only so much the public will be able to pay even those from other countries. Disney used to be a value but it seems that with the price increases the park itself does not keep up in kind. The new Nemo ride is pretty lack luster if you ask me. If the rumor is true that they are going to expand Fantasy Land then I do not mind paying a little extra.

Prices increasing doesn't necessarily mean that they'll eventually reach a saturation point. As long as the increases in the prices stays in synch with inflation and the expansion of discretionary income, they should be okay.
