I read some where that Disney Quest will be replace by NBA Experience sometime in 2016. Several comments and questions:

Any idea when this will happen?
How will this effect the water park and more ticket pricing?
And why?
Is anyone really excited about NBA Experience?

Does not seem very Disney like, at least with the DQ you can bring the kids over for an hour or two to have some fun. The interactive games are fun as a family wanting to get out of the heat for a little while.

1. Like you said "sometime in 2016
2. It will not effect pricing
3a. We don't yet know if the NBA experience will be added to WP option
3b. You're still getting the same amount of WP&M visits. There's just 1 fewer option now.
4. I'm not an NBA fan but I do enjoy playing a friendly game/shooting baskets. I'm waiting to see what kind of "experiences" are involved.

I think they are making a mistake with this NBA thing and I'm a bball fan. I just don't think it has a wide enough mass appeal. I'd much rather have a building with indoor minature golf, virtual reality games or even different sports related games.
Well I agree but Disney has the biggest deal with NBA so that probably helped the decision.

I suspect that is part of it. The NBA City restaurant at Universal will be shutting down. All the recent reviews of the place talk about how run down it is and how the games are broken.

I think it's a terrible idea. No question Disney Quest was in need of renovations but it was really a great place. A few updates and it would have been drawing in the big crowds again. I feel like the West End area of Downtown Disney is now missing anything original from Disney.

The NBA experience would be a much better fit at the Wide World of Sports complex.

I know another reason why they are getting rid of Disney Quest.

They can probably make more money off of the resort arcades than Disney Quest. Their customers pay for each machine, rather than have an unlimited pass. That goes for Annual Passholders too.

I don't think Disney quest brings in as many as it used to. They also haven't updated it in a long time. They also gave vouchers in vacation packages and in water park and more ticket. Maybe they just aren't making as much on it anymore.

That's true, they couldn't give away meals at Planet Hollywood either. So that's why both of them are in need of a change. I just wish that they were doing something else with the Quest building.

I know, let's drive 2 days each way so we can buy a $25 Slam Dunk Burger with Foul Line Fries meal. NOT.

What a colossal let down.

When we were there last Friday evening it was packed!! And there weren't even tour groups there so its hard for me to believe that its because it doesn't get enough visitors

DisneyQuest is a mess. The technology is all 15+ years old. I don't think anyone pays to go there anymore, just people on WP&M option or APs. Would you pay $45 a person for stuff that my X-Box does better? I'm sure it makes sense to close, and probably the NBA experience will do better than this.

That said - the WP&M used to be Pleasure Island, the Water Parks and Disney Quest (plus WWoS and the one 9-hole golf course). They've taken quite a bit away without replacing it with anything new. Now, I suppose if they include the NBA experience in the WP&M, then that would even out. However, I think the appeal of that is much narrower than the appeal of a place like DisneyQuest. But if they are not going to take care of the games, then who knows.

One question - anyone know where they'll be selling off the old videogames?

I wonder if Disney did this just to Piss off Universal.

NBA City had been rumored to be closing for a few years now, I doubt Universal cares, and seeing the general consensus, most people don't seem very interested in it.

The actual game of basketball isn't special but its star players and its marketing are, the NBA is arguably 3rd here but internationally is more popular than Football and Baseball and I guess the international visitors will enjoy it
