I was just told that Disny is purchasing 300 acres in Gettysburg, PA for a new theme park. This came from someone who lives in Gettysburg. Anyone heard anything about this??????? I would love it....I live only 15 minutes from Gettysburg.

There have been rumors for year's that Disney wanted to build an American History type park. You may want to post this over on the rumors board to see if anyone knows anything of the current state of the rumor.

This was rumored about 5-10 years ago. It sounded like a phenomenal park/attraction when it was originally being discussed. I'm in Philadelphia and I haven't heard anything lately regarding this.

This kind of rumor pops up every so often, and if they are to be believed you can expect Disney to build a new park in nearly every state. Any time large amounts of land are purchased, Disney is usually assumed to be associated, when often they are not.

I have heard these rumors for years. I just don't think that WDW would invest that kind of money in PA where a park could only be open April -October. I just think it gets too cold in PA to make a park of the magnitude Disney would want be a realistic thing. It would be nice though since it isn't that far away from here!

Well...I never thought of that.....good point. It was worth wishing for a few minutes.

Thanks!

Virginia sent Disney packing quite a few years ago after they had put in the option to buy on many acres. They wanted to build Disney's America on historic civil war battlegrounds. I drive by the area occasionally (not too far from DC off rt 66) and now the land has been turned into expensive housing developments. So this is better?

It was around 1993-94. They wanted to build outside of DC. Here's a link with some info.

Has the press release and some drawings of the park. So guy even wrote a book on the "evils" of the park. It may have had to be seasonal. BG is open from Apr- Oct. However all the histroical places here are open year round.

Hmm, that's interesting. I thought the main reason for them not wanting Disney there was to preserve the land, then they turn around and build a housing development on it? It was also rumored that Bedford county wanted Disney to build in the area, but nothing ever came of it.

What I had heard (and I could be wrong) that the land in PA was purchased to put a very large Disney Quest with some smaller attractions and eateries and the same as done in other parts of the country and then stopped everything...I cant remember exactly why, but I think they just didnt see it going over very well in the end....however I really wish they would build DIsney parks in the North East, doubt it will happen though...I saw an interview with a Disney exec and he said after Hong Kong they have no other places to build a park in the world
