Disney Protest May 10th, outside Disneyland

Maybe do as soap opera fans do and find some item that would symbolize the game and each person that writes could get ahold of to send along with a letter. Those are things that can get attention.

Flats. It's being done. :)

A good friend of mine is flying all the way out from Houston,Texas to come help with the protest with me. Ha, and while were outside protesting her family and the rest of mine (except dad), are going to do a brief day trip inside the park. Hope to be heard. :lovestruc

Good for you!

...And the reason I say write is cause it does say alot when a company ends up with piles and piles of letters that let them know they are not happy with things. I have seen more things done when letter writing campaigns happen then anything else. Maybe do as soap opera fans do and find some item that would symbolize the game and each person that writes could get ahold of to send along with a letter. Those are things that can get attention....

Many many many VMkers have been writing and mailing and e-mailing LOTS of letters, as well as VMK flats, to several top execs involved with WDIG.

The letter campaign has been in full swing for a couple of weeks and is still going strong.

Delivering notes to the park is yet ANOTHER effort to try to get them to turn the course.

Think about it though, most aren't going to have a clue what VMK is or care. They have their plans to get into that park and do whatever and because Sats are busy they want to get in there and do the rides that end up with long lines and not bother with what someone could be protesting, kwim?
It is not for park-goers. It is for Disney to see that people care that they are closing VMK. It is with the hope that the local paper will cover it, as we KNOW they are following the issue.

If there is very little amount of people out there to protest then no one would notice no matter how busy the weekend.
And if lots turn out, how amazing that will be!

I'm curious as to how many have signed up and will actually show. Especially if the weather is as hot as it has been at times lately here.
Things that you believe in, take effort to fight for. People want to keep VMK alive. I would not be so fast to short-sell them due to heat.

Besides its the theme park and not the corp offices.
Virtual Magic Kingdom - actual Magic Kingdom (aka Disneyland)

If they really want to do some sort of protest it would be better served in front of the Burbank offices I would think. Again JMO
Both would be good. Trust me, Disney officials will take note if a group turns up to picket at the Park. They don't care for the negative publicity.

A group of fellow players decided to stand up and take action and organize something to fight for an online community they believe in instead of waiting for someone else to do so. Good for them to have created a plan!

 If you knew me well you would know I am so not an organizer. I can help with ideas but organizing is better left to those that can. I have learned that with 3 kids (one that is now a busy toddler) that you can only be so organized with things. Getting things done...well I'm lucky if I can...or can remember to after being sidetracked by one of them. Now if I still lived up in Burbank that might be different but I'm also about an hour away with a husband that may end up with a promotion (crossing fingers) which will take him away from us more and leaves me to do even more then I do already. By the time I could ever even attempt to sit and organize such a thing I would have very little. Anyone that is parent knows how it is. But I still think that it is better served at that spot then a theme park.

I am a single parent, so yes, I know how it is. I'm also the Cubmaster of a rather large Cub Scout pack, I'm an honors student earning straight A's in the hope of getting accepted into medical school after I earn my bachelor's, and I work full-time. Due to a learning disability in one particular area, I too am terribly disorganized by nature, but I've learned to manage what needs to be managed even if I'll never be a "place-for-everything-and-everything-in-its-place" kind of gal.

Even with all of that going on, if I lived remotely within driving distance of Burbank, or could in any way afford a plane ticket (which I did look into), I'd find a way to make it happen, especially if I thought it was the most effective way to be heard. And I do agree, it would probably be extremely effective.

I believe that every effort being made to save VMK deserves to be applauded. Taken singly, some efforts may be more efficient than others, but they all work as a collective whole. Certainly, one course of action shouldn't be discouraged in favor of another. They should ALL be encouraged, because they all help, even if only by raising the morale of those participating and galvanizing them to act in other ways. I think the protest is an excellent idea, and will catch Disney's attention along with all the letters!

We could never travel to disneyland so we are going to visit WDW. We are leaving for WDW on saturday 5/3. We will be driving and won't arrive until sunday evening. We plan to go to Magic Kingdom on monday and the pirate and princess party on friday evening.

princessmadiro LOVES disney and i could never take disney completely away from her even though VMK is closing. Being in disney world is magical for her. It really is a place where she is treated like a princess. princess: She would love to live in the magic kingdom if she could. So when she discovered VMK this past summer she was hooked. She could experience all that she could remember when she visited the parks and do even more than she could ever think possible.

Our last visit to WDW was a few years ago at christmas time and princess got exposed to a very fatal respiratory virus while we were there. We almost lost her. She loves disney so much she is willing to go back and take the chance of getting sick again. She has wanted to go to WDW since this past summer and we couldn't get the timing right until now. All because of VMK.

princessmadiro was heartbroken when she didn't win a castle suite room during dream month. She is a princess so she needed a castle room. She loved that room just the way it came and didn't want to add any other furniture to it. She wanted to just be able to go there and sit and think when ever she wanted to. (YES- she could build one but it would never be the same to her. And many very nice people opened up their rooms for her and even built her a beautiful dream room) Her own bedroom is decorated with princesses.

We plan to bring our avatar flats and a few avatar friends with us and take pictures of them wherever we go (on rides, with characters etc.). princess hopes that a cast member will take "princessmadiro" up to the castle suite room and at least get a picture of her in the room since she will never get a castle suite room on VMK now. (or possibly just happen to leave her avatar
somewhere in the suite). This will NOT be a protest but we will be wearing SAVE VMK t-shirts and our avatars will be with us to continue the magic.

If anyone is in the area we would love to meet up with you.

Aww...princess told me about the trip and she's terribly excited! She said she wants to take her 'mummy' on the tea cups and make her dizzy! LOL I'm so glad she's going to see Ariel! Yes, she told me...she absolutely loves Ariel! Have an awesome vacation! I won't allow the decisions of the 'potted plants' running the online area of Disney to ruin other aspects of the Disney Company for me, either. I've always been a huge Disney fan and will continue to be long after vmk closes. I would love for them to change their minds and keep the vmk open, but if it closes, I will cherish the memories I have of the game and hope for something similar to come along soon.
Many hugs, Pink and Princess! Have an amazing adventure!

With the news there, this could be huge. How often is it that Disney upsets people so much there is actually a protest? I don't remember hearing about anything like it ever before. And it only helps that the news is planning to cover it. If this protest doesn't do anything, I suggest we go straight to the building with the WDIG offices and hold them for ransom or something. Sounds like a good time to me.

You know, I have this nagging feeling that there might be a law against that, somewhere... :rotfl:

Could someone please post or pm the exact time and location of this protest, for me? The website is currently down, and I know someone who is interested in it.

TIA! :thumbsup2

Passion is what drives our society. We can look no further then the Boston Tea Party. This protest is a symbol of rebellion against the establishment for lack of concern for society and its members. Taxation without representation! This game and all that Disney does within their theme parks regardless of the medium used to delivery is mutual between all the parties that are involved and Disney has a Corporate responsibility to act within the confines of our society build on the aspects of communities.

Online networks must be accountable to those who partake in the activities and if the only reason to justify a closing it an expiration date then that same expiration date applies to the loyalty of its guests.

Now if the reason was financial difficulties within the theme park this protest would not exist and we would be more understanding to the requirements to run a business. Neither Disney nor Sulake have said this closure was due to the inability for fund the vital day to day operations of the game. Even so the members within this society have been willing to support such financial needs, if they exist.

To turn their backs on the Community and on the World we must stand together and unite against such irresponsibility of Disney and all of their operations to send a clear and vivid message that People build societies and in this new age of online networks we must ensure such companies like Sulake and Disney do not pull tricks on their guest and disconnect millions of kids based on an expiration date of a promotion.

I urge anyone who is not able to come in person to this every increasing protest to log onto our Magic Kingdom at 7:00A and stand with their backs turn to the gates in the Esplanade to symbolize the their lack of wanting to listening to the voices of their society members as we turn our backs to Disneyland.

Remember Disney is destroying a Community not a game.

P.S The site now has a link with more information on the protest from the planning meetings. http://www.vmkkidsunite.com/info.cfm
