We are thinking about making a trip towards the end of August and staying at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. We usually stay offsite, or even when on site we usually have a rental car. However we are thinking of just doing the whole "Disney Bubble" thing this time and using Magical Express and not renting a car.

My daughter really wants to go see the new Harry Potter area at Universal so we would probably like to do one, maybe two, days at Universal.

Any tips on how to get out there without a vehicle?
Call a cab to pick us up at the front of Fort Wilderness? (about how much for 4)
Rent a car out at the Magic Kingdom lot gas station(how do we get out there from Fort Wilderness?)

You can pick up a rental car at the Dolphin too. Alamo has a location there.

We did the no rental part last time. We have always stayed on site. But you can call the mears taxi company and they have a shuttle to universal studios. It was less than 20 bucks per person. They can get you there before park open and pick you up pretty late.

We've rented cars on property next to the Hess station several times. Make a reservation and they will send a van to your resort to pick you up. Generally, I will drop off the vehicle the next morning and they take me to TTC so i can meet up with DW & DD. it's really convenient

We thought about doing the Mears shuttle, but found out we would be locked into a time slot. So we just took a taxi. It cost around $26 one way for a family of 4, so very comparable to the shuttle. Taxis were already waiting in the morning at the resort (POFQ) and drove us to the taxi stand at Universal, where you take an escalator right up to the moving walkway which takes you into the park. To get back to Disney, just go to the taxi stand. There are taxis lined up to take you back. It was easy and we could return "home" whenever we decided we were done at Universal.

Dreams Unlimited sells Universal Studios tickets (one or two days) that include transfers. http://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/universal/tickets.htm

That's surprising. It cost $19.75 a few years ago to take a taxi from the Contemporary to Pop Century.

Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure or the new Harry Potter area actually at Universal Studios?

The reason I ask is that Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure is open and definitely worth a visit. It's pretty cool. Also check out Bluto's raft ride - by far the best raft ride I've been on.

If she's wanting to see the latest Harry Potter area (Diagon Alley) at Universal Studios then I think they're just finishing that up and it's official opening date hasn't been announced yet.
