A Newbery Award winner by Shannon Dale, Princess Academy is about a mythical tribe who lives in poverty in the mountains, quarrying rocks for a living. Then one day, the king sent a degree that the prince needs to get married, and tradition has it that one village will be chosen by sacred lot to select the princess, and the little rock village was chosen. As a result, every girl of marriageable age is required to go to the princess academy for one year where they will be taught to read and write. They will also learn history, geography, politics, etiquette, dancing, conversation, whatever else necessary to turn a bunch of illiterate girls into sophisticated princess. When the year was over, their will be a big ball where the prince will come, and he will select his bride from the trained village girls.
Isn’t this an awesome concept? The tribe is mythical, so the people can be any race or color Disney wants. There is the concept of going from rags to riches, like Cinderella, except that they must train for whole year. There is the ball, where the prince will dance with the transformed girl in a beautiful dress. There is a lot more to the story, including a battle, and it’s super exciting. I believe it will make a tremendous Disney movie.
