I got an offer in the mail today to upgrade our Disney Visa to a Disney Premier Visa card. Has anyone else looked at this?

There's a $49 annual fee, but it gives you an extra 1% for purchases at "gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney locations." It also allows you to use your reward dollars for airline tickets "on any airline to any destination, anytime."

There's also an introductory offer to earn 5% at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney locations for the first 3 months.

I know the $49 will take $4,900 in charges to earn back, but based on the amount we spend in the categories listed, I'm thinking we'll more than make out on the deal. Heck, I think our DVC room charges alone would more than cover the $4,900. I wonder if paying DVC maintenance fees would qualify under "most Disney locations."

Anyone else thinking about going for this?

Now I just need to figure out the timing. I need to respond by April 30 to get the 3-month 5% deal. I want to time it so we get at least one Disney trip during the 3 months.

I just looked at my 2011 year-end statement online, which conveniently lists all charges for the year in these same categories. (The only things it doesn't separate out are the Disney charges.) Considering we use this card for everything, I think the upgrade to the Premier card will definitely pay off for us.

$4900 is less than $100 per week. Sounds awfully easy just in gas and groceries to me. Hard to go wrong by the sounds of it.

We got the offer this week, too. I agree that it would be fairly easy to cover the annual fee. We put everything on the Disney Visa (except Sam's and Costco). That would be great if MF's would count as a Disney location!

The offer needs to be activated by April 30. We're in the midst of trying to get a $500 cash bonus from Discover if we spend $3000/mo every month between 12/11 and 6/12. Unfortunately, we may not do as well with the 5% Disney premier card bonus in the first 3 months, since we will have to preferentially use our Discover card for May and June.

On the sign-up web site, it further defines the "most Disney locations" as locations that are "wholy owned and operated by Disney."

For the way we use our card based on our year end summary, this is a no brainer! Add in the fact that we will pay our DVC dues and remaining balance due for our cruise in June within the promotional 3 month period in which we get 5%, that alone nets us $260 in Disney dollars. Winning!!!

We received the offer and have already received our cards. We will be purchasing my DMIL ticket for our upcoming family ticket (cha ching...5% back) and have decided to move gas and groceries over to the card. For the amount we will get back, it's worth the $49 annual fee. Especially since we can use some of our reward dollars toward plane tickets!

yes, I think this will really work for us. Too bad it didn't come out a few weeks ago before I purchased 11 park passes for family member's and renewed my annual pass!!!!

There's a way around that too. Buy gift cards online and use your Visa to pay for them.

Hmmmm...you have me thinking now. I have to make my final cruise payment as well in a few months. But if I booked with Dreams Unlimited, does that count? Now I'm wondering about the 6 months financing as well. I made my down payment so long ago, I don't remember who the actual payment went to.

I have not looked at the offer yet, it is downstairs in the "mail pile". Can anyone confirm if the interest rate on the card is lower or same as the regular disney rewards card?

I received this offer in an email. When I saw that it had an annual fee:headache:, I immediately dismissed it. But after reading through this thread, I'm going to seriously consider it.:teacher: Thanks, everyone! :surfweb:

I was kinda disappointed in the offer. I did a survey for Chase last fall and they listed possible annual bonuses when you paid your annual fee such as free tickets to see a Disney movie. It appears they eliminated that feature from the final product.

Up until October 2011 we used our Disney Visa for EVERYTHING but in October opened a Costco AMEX that gives between 2 and 3 percent on dining, gasoline and travel (including front desk charges at SSR from our December trip) and the card is free. So now I use the Disney Visa for everything except travel, restaurants and gasoline.

So we decided against the $50 upgrade.

Same APR

I like this. We buy gift cards at our grocery store for everything Disney related and a lot of our other store purchases (home depot, amazon, etc).

ETA: I found online where you can sign up. The hard part is Discover just upped their 5% cash back limits to like $1500 so for a bunch of 3 month periods its better to put it on Discover. I guess I need to crunch some numbers. The 3 month extra % might make it worth for just the first year.

I'm going to do it for one year. We have 2 Disney Cruises booked, one for June and One for June 2013. If I pay off both cruises during the 5% bonus time I get back $550. I heard there is no spending limit during the 5% bonus time. I'll probally downgrade the card the second year as its not worth the $49 otherwize.

I dismissed it thinnking they would sweeten the offer later, they usually do. Of course since I didn't jump on it they now won't, lol!
I do not doubt that we will get the full value out of it, but I would prefer that my 5% be with Disney charges and I am not going to Disney until July.

I also received the offer by mail. I call and ask a few questions. I have a lot of auto payments set up. Card numbers stay the same but expiration dates change. So, all the auto payments have to be changed.

I signed up.:goodvibes With recent add on hitting my card two days after up grading plus an upcoming trip to buy passes for, I will more than make up the $49.

The person I spoke to on the phone was confident that my DVC add on would qualify for the 5%. I will know for sure in a few days.

To answer my own question, my down payment via the DU website showed up on my Disney Visa statement as "DCL Cruise Reservation" and it qualified for 6 months financing for no interest. So I will definitely be upgrading to the new card, at least for the 1st year.

I tried doing this with another card and found out they didn't classify my grocery store as "grocery".

You might check with Chase and make sure they don't have any weird categories.
